Lyrics On Your Mind?

Thu Aug 03, 2006 12:24 am

Is there a certain lyrical line or phrase that is on your mind at the moment? If so tell us what it is... and maybe explain why it's on your mind.

I've had the phrase 'how long has this been going on' from the band 'ACE' just ringing through my head - probably for all of the bad protocol exhibited at the lab that I consult at....
"Sing a song, play guitar, make it snappy..."

Iron Maiden's 22 Wrathchild.
"Born into a scene
Of angriness and greed.
Of dominance and persecution.
My mother was a Queen,
And my dad I've never seen.
I was never meant to be..."

I've had "Alive" by Pearl Jam going through my head for most of the morning.

The problem with this is as follows: I don't actually know any of the lyrics beyond "I'm still alive," so instead, the very beginning of the outro guitar solo is on repeat in my head.

It gets quite annoying after awhile. End the friggin song already!

How to Be dead by Snow Patrol.

Please don't go crazy, if I tell you the truth
No you don't know what happened
And you never will if
You don't listen to me while I talk to the wall
This blanket is freezing, it's been out in the hall
Where you've had me for hours
Till I'm sure what I want
But darling I want the same thing that I wanted before
So sweetheart tell me what's up I won't stop no way

Please keep your hands down
And stop raising your voice
It's hardly what I'd be doing if you gave me a choice
It's a simple suggestion can you give me sometime
So just say yes or no
Why can't you shoulder the blame
Coz both my shoulders are heavy
From the weight of us both
You're a big boy now so let's not talk about growth
You've not heard a single word I have said...
Oh, my God

Please take it easy it can't all be my fault
I haven't made half the mistakes
That you've listed so far
Oh baby let me explain something
It's all down to drugs
At least I remember taking them and not a lot else
It seems I've stepped over lines
You've drawn again and again
But if the ecstacy's in the wit is definitely out
Dr. Jekyll is wrestling Hyde for my pride

It's a really good song.

"...Einstein, disguised as Robin Hood
With his memories in a trunk
Passed this way an hour ago
With his friend, a jealous monk
He looked so immaculately frightful
As he bummed a cigarette
Then he went off sniffing drainpipes
And reciting the alphabet
Now you would not think to look at him
But he was famous long ago
For playing the electric violin
On Desolation Row..."

This one goes through my head fairly often, and when I saw the title of the thread, back it came. Must have something to do with my fondness for mangos.

When she woke up late
in the morning light
and the day had just begun
She opened up her eyes and thought
Oh, what a morning
It's not a day for work
it's a day for catching tan
just lying on the beach and having fun
She's going to get you

"All that she wants" - Ace of Base

I hadn't listened to that song in a long while, but I happened to find the MP3 in one of the network computers just yesterday...
Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

A song called Going to Pasalacqua by Green Day.
I toss and turn all night
Thinking of your ways of affection
But to find that it's not different at all
I throw away my past mistakes
And contemplate my future
that's when I say...
What the hey!?!?
Would I last forever?
You and I together, hand and hand
We run away (far away)
I'm in for nasty weather
But I'll take whatever you can
give that comes my way (far away)

Here in the land that Abraham was promised to receive we listen to you catechize from your pulpit overseas. You mourn the proofs of our barbarity. Dry your eyes, oh Pharisee. We both speak a settler’s cant. We both read from the same old played out scripts and hum familiar tunes, broadcast on fixed frequencies, stuck in locking grooves. We both profess noble intent as we civilize human impediments. So if your hands are clean then noblesse oblige that you wipe that “who me?” look off of your face and concede our designs separated by nothing more than place and time. Different scenes, same crimes. Pray, let him who’s without sin cast the first statues of the former rogues turned folk heroes that your forefathers hung. Don’t lecture me about plundered soil while you loaf upon your father’s spoils. We want nothing more than what you already have: a comforting set of exculpatory “facts” like, say, the myth of an empty land and a conquest so complete we can pull these tanks from our streets and hand the loose ends over to bureaucrats and become just like you – lounging carefree in your cafes, absolved from sin and human grenades. Entre nous, how did your desert bloom?

Ha ha ha! That reminds me of when Mr. Harlot and I were in university and I was living in residence. We were sitting in my room with the window open one warm night and some guys walked by down on the pathway singing at the top of their lungs:

"I WEAR MY SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT
SO I CAN, SO I CAN...... "
(pause)
"See at night?"

And then they bust into hysterical laughter, and so did Mr. Harlot and I.
But that was when I ruled the world

There are places I'll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

"Right In Two" by Tool
Angels on the sideline,
Puzzled and amused.
Why did Father give these humans free will?
Now they’re all confused.

Don’t these talking monkeys know that
Eden has enough to go around?
Plenty in this holy garden, silly old monkeys,
Where there’s one, you're bound to divide it,
Right in two.

Angels on the sideline,
Baffled and confused.

Father blessed them all with reason.
And this is what they choose.
Monkey, killing monkey, killing monkey.
Over pieces of the ground.

Silly monkeys give them thumbs,
They forge a blade,
And where there's one they're bound to divide it,
Right in two.
Right in two.

Monkey, killing monkey, killing monkey.
Over pieces of the ground.
Silly monkeys give them thumbs,
They make a club.
And beat their brother down.
How they survive so misguided is a mystery.
Repugnant is a creature who would
Squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here

Cut it divide it all right in two.
Cut it divide it all right in two.
Cut it divide it all right in two.
Cut it divide it all right in two.

Fight, over the clouds, over the earth, over sky.
Fight, over life, over blood, over air and light.
Over love, over sun, over another.
Fight, till they die (not all the time) Over what? Over Lies and (greed).

Angels on the sideline again.
Been so long with patience and reason.
Angels on the sideline again.
Wondering when this tug of war will end.
And all at once the crowd begins to sing: Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same

From one Tool fan to another, you're welcome

In that case let me throw you one back:

Tool - 10 000 days (Wings part II)

Listen to the tales and romanticize,
How we follow the path of the hero.
Boast about the day when the rivers overrun.
How we rise to the height of our halo.

Listen to the tales as we all rationalize
Our way into the arms of the savior,
Feigning all the trials and the tribulations;
None of us have actually been there.
Not like you.

Ignorant fibbers in the congregation
Gather around spewing sympathy,
Spare me.
None of them can even hold a candle up to you.
Blinded by choices, hypocrites won't see.

But, enough about the collective Judas.
Who could deny you were the one who illuminated
You'll have a piece of the divine.

And this little light of mine, the gift you passed on to me;
I'll let it shine to guide you safely on your way,
Your way home ...

Oh, what are they going to do when the lights go down
Without you to guide them all to Zion?
What are they going to do when the rivers overrun
Other than tremble incessantly?

High as a wave, but our eyes are upon the ground.
You were the light and the way, they'll only read about.
I only pray, Heaven knows when to lift you out.
Ten thousand days in the fire is long enough, you're going home.

You're the only one who can hold your head up high,
Shake your fists at the gates saying:
"I have come home now!
Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father.
Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended.
It's time now!
My time now!
Give me my, give me my wings!"

Give me my wings!

You are the light and way, that they will only read about.

Set as I am in my ways and my arrogance,
Burden of proof tossed upon the believers.
You were the witness, my eyes, my evidence,
Judith Marie, unconditional one.

Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescence.
Difficult to see you in this light.
Please forgive this bold suggestion:
Should you see your Maker's face tonight,
Look Him in the eye, look Him in the eye, and tell Him:
I never lived a lie, never took a life, but surely saved one.
Hallelujah, it's time for you to bring me home.

Allright then, someones gotta post this gem:

Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn beyond the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition, missing opportunities and I must
Feed my will to feel my moment drawing way outside the lines.

Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see there is so much more
and beckons me to look through to these infinite possibilities.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn outside the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition leaving all these opportunities behind.

Feed my will to feel this moment urging me to cross the line.
Reaching out to embrace the random.
Reaching out to embrace whatever may come.

I embrace my desire to
feel the rhythm, to feel connected
enough to step aside and weep like a widow
to feel inspired, to fathom the power,
to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain,
to swing on the spiral
of our divinity and still be a human.

With my feet upon the ground I lose myself
between the sounds and open wide to suck it in,
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out,
I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.

Spiral out. Keep going, going...
And all at once the crowd begins to sing: Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same

Song: Angina,
Album: Beyond the Vale,
Artist: Tristania.

One of my favourite songs, the lyrics may read more like prose, which is part of their beauty.

Through scornful declarence and lumnious eyes
the shadows enveil with the glorious night
Trespassing the sunset like thou hast before
Entreating the daylight to rage nevermore
Angina striking Elysium
A frail remembrance glorificates the nightside-ascendance
veiled underneath thy funereal skies
The winds they may haunt me in bloodredest skies
The moon may bewed the strangest of light
The clasp of indifference the conquering tide
The sweeping of daylight... my vigour's decline
Thy Carrion Kind
Angina strikes Elysium... a frail remembrance
Carrion Kind
My Carrion Kind
