Most Expensive Concert Tickets?

Thu Aug 03, 2006 6:05 am

Madonna has kicked off her UK tour and is charging upto £150 a ticket. Would you pay that to see her live? Is it too much? Have you ever paid that or more to see a concert?

Ouch - I don't think I'd be happy paying anything more than £60 for a concert ticket, unless there was something very special about it!

I paid £116 for a U2 ticket last year, worth every bit. This was on Ebay though, can't remember how much the tickets were originally being sold for.
I wouldn't pay £150 for Madonna tickets, don't like her.

My partner paid $500 for 2 U2 tickets in SF last fall - he'd promised them as a birthday gift so he felt obliged.

You can pay silly money for some concerts. There were some tickets going for £350 for the Stones at Twickenham (official tickets too).

What pisses me off though is that you buy the ticket and then they want a booking fee. I saw some the other day that wanted a £10 (per ticket) fee plus another £2.50 to post them to you.

I paid $240 for two section A tickets to see U2 at The Pond in Anaheim last year. Worth every penny - best gig I've ever been to.

I also paid 2 x $85 for front section seats to Mark Knopfler last year at The Greek Theatre in LA, very good gig indeed.

What about sporting events? Anyone done anything ridiculous for a sporting event? Like the time I paid $550 for a ticket to see Liverpool win in Instanbul last year? I wouldn't change my mind on that for a minute - one amazing night and thoroughly glad I spent the money (although there were a few moments at half time when I couldn't believe I'd blown $550 to see Liverpool get thrashed)...

I remember when you could see Eric Clapton or Thin Lizzy for $12.

Kinda dates me. Sad

I'd expect her to pay me £150 to see her!!

We paid about £200 combined for 4 of us to go see Queen and Paul rodgers last year (about 2 weeks after london bombings)

So long as I can get Fear Factory tickets for £20 (which I have before), Im happy. Of course for Metallica tickets I might expand the amount a bit  Wink

I went to a Rolling Stones concert in Chicago back in 2000 or 2001 where tickets were about US$150 each...luckily, my aunt's company had a private box, so I got in for about $25  Smile

Almost.

A friend and me wanted to pay 1000 EUR for two tickets for the semi-final Germany vs. Italy game. Unfortunately the price went up to over 1200 EUR 5 mins before the auction ended. 500 EUR per ticket was the maximum I had spend although it is already totally ridiculous.

On the other hand: I got tickets for the Superbowl in Detroit for free but a friend (the same as above ) and me had to spend a shitload of money for the flight to DTW.

So I would say that watching the Superbowl was the most expensive thing I have ever done when it comes to visiting events like concerts or football/soccer games.

Patrick

Edit: I am an utter moron, I wrote that "Greece" and not "Italy" played in the semi-final vs. Germany in the last World Cup. Incredible!

First of all I wouldn't take the tickets if your threw them after me. Second, it's not really "live" when she performs, is it?

Money well spent.  Smile I'm paying up to £38 just to see Newcastle play Wigan. (Money not so well spent)

The most I've paid for a concert I believe was the near £50 to see Black Sabbath (w/ Ozzy) live last summer. Totaly worth the wait and money.

Yes my friend, you are showing your age. When Pink Floyd was last on tour in '94 I bought two tickets thru a broker and paid USD33 each. I was appalled, but said what the hell, it's Floyd...

And as for me showing my age, I remember going to the Cotton Bowl in 1980 for the Texxas Jam, saw 6 bands, was entertained for 12+ hours in 120F heat, and I believe I paid 20 bucks. How times have changed..

Dude, if you don't like her thats cool. I spent $300 / person last year to see her in Los Angeles. It was great. To Thom@s' point, because of the cost, the audience was really the 'faithful' so there was no annoying TALKING like we were all sitting in our living rooms listening to CDs. God I hate that.

It was a very energetic event. If you like Madonnna, you should see here live.

I just went to Elton John in Las Vegas, again nearly $300 per seat. But again, well worth it.

You are quite correct here and on the face of it £350 is alot of money but The Rolling Stones are to be the first band to have seats available on stage with them!

The seats on stage are going for £350 , if i could afford it i would love to be seated up on the stage whilst the "boys" strutted their stuff!

$150/ticket for U2 is the most I have ever paid for tickets. Others have come close but they take the cake for cost.

Nothing. But I would pay money to keep her away from my town. Vadge really is quite horrid these days and past her prime.

Too bad you will miss their show in Atlanta this weekend. They are having a backstage meet and greet at the Georgia Aquarium before the show.

lets see, back in 2001 (i think) my best friend stood in line for tickets to a U2 concert in BOS. well they said not to line up as the start of the line (where first person would be) would be arbitrary.

ie there was one huge line but the ticketing agents came out when it was time to open, walked down the line and randomly stopped somewhere and said that person was now first in line. well my friend was only a few people behind her. so he ended up buying something like 8 tickets for around $150 each. the thing is he sold them all on ebay or privately for a few thousand in total. i'd say the people who bought those qualify for most expensive tickets ever. haha.

And I thought they were a low cost carrier... The airfare you paid is higher than on British or Lufthansa.

I won't even listen to her on the radio, so I'm not going to fork over 150 quid a ticket!

If the Madonna show was in my area then I would have gone but I wouldn't have paid more than £50 for a ticket. £150 is just extracting the Michael. On top of that she was charging £25 for a programme and £45 for a t-shirt. It might be her last tour though but that's going too far I reckon.

It's supposed to be a great show though. Big grin

The most expensive concert tickets? Tickets for the Barbra Streisand concert held in the grounds of her house (at which Barry Gibb made an appearance and the audience was like a who's who of important showbiz personalities) ... priceless.
