A Sad Day For In-N-Out Burger

The matriarch of In-N-Out Burger has died at 86. If I was on the West Coast today I would enjoy a Double Double Animal Style. Someone have one for me please.

It isn't going to happen. In-N-Out is a family owned, privately held business and the company has already been taken over by two of the founder's sons, who have no intention on selling the chain out.

The sons have died. One in a plane accident and the other from an accidental overdose (of what I have no idea.) The mother was the only one left unless there are two sons that aren't known to me. It would be a travesty if the chain was sold to one of the big congolomerates like McDonald's or BK.

http://www.pasadenastarnews.com/news/ci_4139802

From said article...

"After Rich Snyder died in an airplane crash in 1993, Esther and Guy Snyder ran the In-N-Out company until Guy's death from an overdose of a narcotic painkiller in 1999. Esther Snyder had remained president ever since."

"Esther Snyder is survived by her granddaughter, Lynsi Martinez, her brother and sisters, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members."

I love all the people who think they're In-n-Out "insiders" by ordering off the secret menu...making everything "animal-style" except, of course, with customizations...yeah, have it your way applies everywhere, not just BK, right!

Except the secret menu's so secret (sshhh!) and so oft-requested (uh oh...specialness is going away now...) that they have those items/preparations on the register keys at In-n-Out.

Saying "animal style!" will NOT get you a special key chain, or membership into the In-n-Out Manager's Clubhouse. Just a gloppy burger.

According to UrbanDictionary Animal Style means it is fried with onions and mustard. That sounds very tasty. Has anyone done that at home?

I have seen it done at other places. There is a place in Camden Town, London that serves grilled chicken and steak sandwiches that does exactly the same thing with the mustard and onions.

The spread is 1000 island dressing. You have to ask now for the ketchup and mustard.

I get the double double grilled onions with ketchup and mustard. Had it for dinner just 25 min ago.

I didn't bother to read the article before posting and the jet fuel fumes I inhaled today on the ramp must have got the best of me.

Any idea how hot it feels when the ramp is already blazing 110F heat index and the APU hooked up to the DC10 is kicking out exhaust from the tail while I watch a noob use the FMC to pull cans off the plane?
