I Love My Daughter...

Wed Aug 09, 2006 10:26 am

Today while washing my car, my two year old daughter got a hold of my keys. I drive a Volkswagen Passat, so it has one of those all in one key fobs. Anyway, rather then harmlessly play with it like she usually does, she took it over to the bucket of water and dropped it in there! I was washing the hood when I heard this and instantly realized what had happened....ugh. Now I am out $175 for a new key, which wont arrive for a week or so.

Anyway, my rant is over. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Heck, in 13 years, she'll be abusing the car itself....  Wink

What's most amusing (though I doubt you see the humor right now) is that car keys have gotten so high-tech they can be ruined by a quick immersion in water. Not to mention the fact that they're so preposterously expensive to replace.

1) Set kitchen oven to 100 degree F.
2) Place fob buttonside-down on middle rack.
3) Leave in place for an hour or so.
4) Go drive!

oh...

5) Cancel the order for the new fob.  Wink

The key is still usable though. So it's not the end of the world, if you ask me! The fact you can still lock and open the car with the actual key blade doesn't ruin you!  Wink

My father once place the spare key to my mothers car on the edge of our trailer and drove off. We looked for a while to find it and when we wre going out later that afternoon I spotted it on the road around the corner. It had taken a pretty severe beating and all the electronics on the inside were distroyed. But the actual metal key part still started the car.

I can still manually unlock the doors and turn on the car, but all keyless functions are completely useless. And I do have a second key, which is my wifes, so with both those reasons combined, a new one is needed.

She is well into the transition. She turned 2.5 on July 31st so we are getting the best of both ages. Some days she is good, and others, like this morning when I took her to the park, she can be a complete pain. Oh well, thats why we love them right?

While visiting from out of town, my cousins wanted to see my actual pilot's license. So I pulled the thing out, and showed it to them. Then, I put it back in my wallet. My second cousin (about 4), liked the color of it, and she took it from my wallet. I took me about ten minutes to find it again. She had stuffed it in her boot! Cool kid, but it scared me for a moment.

It didn't survive a simple dip in water? Hell, my fob was sent through the washer (was laying on the bottom when I took the clothes out), and worked just fine  Smile

Lucky you. I was hoping for the same, as it was only in there for about 15 seconds. Even my cell phone has survived wakeboarding. So that must mean only one thing: Volkswagen builds shitty key fobs! Down with VW!

My mother in-law tells a story about the time my husband was about four and decided he'd help fill up the car. Yep... the garden hose again. Apparently, it was quite expensive to flush out a car's fuel system back then.

Fortunately for me, she let him live.  Smile

Sweet! Give her a big hug from me! What a nice idea to clean Papa's keys. She'll be a big help in future! And I feel quite sympathic with you as you drive a German car! Danke!
