Movies That Made You Cry

Tue Aug 15, 2006 1:18 pm

I went to 'World Trade Centre' last night and had a tear in my eye at one stage. I'm not usually one to cry easily but there were one or two scenes that were pretty emotional.

Another movie that brought me to tears was Brassed Off.

So c'mon guys, 'fess up - what movies have you cried at?

This is so Ironic...

First we had "Flight 93", next we have "World Trade Center" which is currently in the theaters, what next? A movie about the crash at the Pentagon?

Can't the movie makers lay 9/11 to rest?

The movie "Eight Below" with Paul Walker and a team of dog sledding huskies ... http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0397313/

the movie in it of itself is not anything special but the abandoned huskies and their fight for survival definitely brought tears to my eyes ... especially because I have a golden retriever of my own and could never imagine having to abandon him !

Haha, I think I cried the first time I saw that movie....probably when I was 7 or 8 (love the movie though).

I think I shed a tear or two (out of generally being upset and enraged) when I first saw the Naudet brothers' documentary about the firefighters on 9/11.

I also cried from laughing so hard when I saw the first Austin Powers movie.

"Shadow" reminded my of my Malamute, and not only did it get to me, my Malamute Dosha actually watched and got VERY upset! I dont know how they got those Malamutes to make the sounds that only Malamutes make when upset or hurt, but my dog was making the same sounds and pacing and visibly agitated during certain scenes. It was weird. No BS I swear!

Memphis Belle, not the William Wyler documentary but the dumbass 90s fictionalized version. What an insult to the brave men of the 8th Air Force. What an insult to the talented people who make real movies! I kept thinking, have we sunk so low that a piece of crap like this can get released?

Carnal Knowledge! It broke my heart to see Ann-Margret being unfaithful to me - and with Art Garfunkel. I'm just now getting over that.

Kidding aside, I will admit that I am a sucker for chick flicks. I will not watch them with 'guys' but Fried Green Tomatoes and Steel Magnolias are classic. It takes a good, intelligent script to make me care about the characters. It is not enough to simply kill one off - I have to care. Saving Private Ryan is a moving story. And if you thought the violence of it was hard to watch just remember that those were actors. When the director yelled "cut" they got up and went on coffee break. The people they portrayed did not.

Brokeback Mountain... that last scene when Ennis is in his trailer looking at the shirts... and THEN, they play the saddest song possible (Willie Nelson) when the credits were rolling. Bawled like a baby and it stuck in my head for two weeks.

Me too - great movie with a real sad ending.

Besides other emotional films:
- Moulin Rouge
- The Shawshank Redemption (that movie was a real roller-coaster of emotions for me, I felt everything from anger, to sadness and victory)

All those are some of my favorite movies.

War movies where I cried (just like those guys in "Senseless in Seattle"):
- Pearl Harbour (yes, I know I should have cried because the movie was so bad, but still...)
- Courage Under Fire (with Meg Ryan)

The type of movies where everyone cries because the folks at Disney are sadistic twats who like to make kids feel miserable:
- Fievel
- Finding Nemo
What is up with these people? I didn't watch Bambi or The Lion King because I know what would happen. Is it possible for Disney to make a movie (animated or not) where some kid loses one or both of his parents?

'Who Will Love My Children' makes me cry so much. It's such a sad, true story. I remember watching it years ago with my parents, and dad had to give me such a big hug to make me feel better and calm me down as I was so upset. I'm such a softie at heart.

Movies that made/make me cry;

http://www.ilbaluardo.com/Cover/Audio/S%20-%20T%20-%20U/TITANIC%20-%20Soundtrack%20-%20Front.jpg
Titanic, The first person I watched it with was my gran and she's dead now so I always cry at the end.  Sad

http://kilby.sac.on.ca/towerslibrary/pages/users/Hotel%20Rwanda.jpg
Hotel Rwanda, it is such a moving story and amidst all the fighting and corruption in that country, one man, Paul Rusesabagina, sheltered over 1200 people from slaughter in the Rwandan genocide of 1994. I love the story and the movie. One of the best.

You know what the 'device' that is effectively the same in both AI and terminator (a machine either wanting to be human or saving humans) works VERY diferently in the two. I was sad when the terminator allowed himself to be terminated, but I certainly didn't feel a welling of tears..but I can understand why some would.
