#1 Party School Is.....

2007 Princeton Review #1 Party School is University of Texas - Austin.

Hook 'Em Horns!!

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont.../082206dntexutsurvey.20b9cf46.html

AUSTIN – The Texas Longhorns earned another national title Monday, not for football but as the country's best party school.

The University of Texas at Austin beat Penn State University, West Virginia University and last year's winner, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in the Princeton Review survey of 115,000 students at campuses around the country.

It topped the overall list – its first time atop the Princeton Review chart – by ranking second in the use of hard liquor, third in beer drinking and 13th in marijuana smoking.

For the ninth straight year, Brigham Young University was voted the most "stone cold sober" school.

I went to Boston University and Southern Methodist University. SMU has GOT to be up at the top of the list for the best party schools.

I went to Central Missouri State University an while I got drunk all the time and had a hell of a good time I would say that was on the lower end of party schools. That was because many people who went there lived in Kansas City, which being only 40 miles away, so they went home weekends. Although a bar in the town, Warrensburg, Missouri did make it onto Playboy's top 100 college bars.

Later I went to Southern Illinois University (the original in Carbondale) and that was one hell of a party town. It got so bad they had to close the school down during Halloween to stop potential rioting. I spent some time around University of Wisconsin, Lacrosse. Lacrosse is a beer drinking town and so was the school.

I think it is hard to judge one school being more of a party school than others. I can't say I ever saw anything more wild than what I saw at Southern Illinois. You really can't get much wilder, without killing yourself or others. Some just will not be because of the people that they attract, but most colleges and universities are loaded with partiers.

Different people party in different ways. A buddy of mine went to snobby upscale school and they had snobby parties with fancy drinks that some people would love. I hung out with a bunch of rusty truck driving rednecks and we drank cheap whisky, shot guns, drove old sad boats, and drank gallons of cheap beer. Some people wouldn't like that. I guess it is all in your tastes.

I had a friend who worked on this project years ago and he said they mainly sat around and just made it up. UT is most definitely a party school (just ask the Bush twins) but it isn't like there are many surprises on the list.

I'm actually surprised Arizona State U did not make the list. Those boys can throw down. Also, Southwest Texas State, or as it is now know as, Texas State University (the fightin' armadillos!) was a huge party school, and was on the top 10 list in the past.

Can I throw in a plug for my alma mater, Texas Lutheran University - small and proud. 1400 students and I bet we could outdrink any other school per capita. Go Bulldogs!

Lutherans are probably the most liberal of any of the Christian denominations. I knew many of the professors who loved to throw down and drink. That school really taught me how to work hard when it's time to work and party hard when it's time to party.

Fair enough. I guess I will just have to cross it off my list of colleges to think about attending after FSU (Fresno State University). CBU seems to still be high up there (California Baptist University). Man that would make it 3 colleges for me!  boggled  NTBI (New Tribes Bible Institute - Biblical Studies), FSU (Animal Nutrition), CBU (Missions/Theology). What did you major in HPLASops?

I think UW - Madison got robbed. UT - Austin doesn't have a street parade where half of the football team gets arrested and halloween in Austin is about as exciting as an old folks' home. I'm surprised to see LSU ranked so "low." Those people can drink like fish...

I went to Hofstra University on Long Island. Although it wasn't a big party school, it was always known to be the school with the Most STD's in the northeast (Percentage wise). I don't know if this was just a myth but it is a fun stat to take around life.........I made it out clean by the way.

That was wrong...

As is true every year, nobody parties like they do at Indiana University.

35,000 students in the middle of nowhere can get into more trouble than any survey could possibly reveal.

IU is usually at the top of these lists. Why they are not this time is a mystery.

Yea, we at CU-Boulder were number 1 in 2003 (my freshman year), and the administration freaked out and started cutting down, since we already are perpetually in the news for one reason or another (party school, football scandals, Ward Churchill, etc.)...we slipped to 9th in 2004 and haven't made the Top 20 in the past 2 years...

I trust Playboy more than Princeton Review. A number one party school ranking from a organization that offers SAT tutoring cannot be taken seriously...especially when it actually takes brains to get into the school in question.

It's truely aw inspiring to go to some of the parties and see thousands upon thousands of drunk young adult women.....it is truly worth the 4 year degree.

Good to see that is still in the Top 10.

When I was at Bowling Green, Playboy-which I would think would be a much more reliable judge of party schools than Princeton anyway-had Ohio U, Ohio State and Bowling Green in the Top 5.

I lived in Austin for 8 years, as a matter of fact, I live 100 miles south now in SAT so Austin is just a short drive away. I always thought the 6th St. scene was overrated. It was always too full of teeny boppers seeing a lot of places are 18+ (which means a well-developed 16-year old with a good fake ID can get in, as my friend's sister always did.) I'm sure it has changed since I was last on 6th, but save for a couple of places, 6th was where you go up until you turn 21, seeing that's where they give you the freebies on your 21st. I always preferred the 4th St. scene after I turned 21 (Lavaca or Ginger Man) anyday or some off-6th bar, like Crown and Anchor, for instance.

As for the partying, I never went to school at UT but knew people who did so I got to go to my fair share of parties around campus. Some of them were pretty wild, I'll admit, most of them were just average though. Maybe I just lost my partying touch now that I'm a little older but with the recent growth Austin experienced, I don't get that party town feeling anymore like I did when my family first moved there.

Damn, I'm going to have to personally pick up the slack for UND  Wink . Nahh, I'll admit, it's tough to find a party or big bar scene around here on the weekdays. During the weekends though, look out, we party hard. I'm pretty disappointed UND dropped off the "Lots of hard liquor" list (we were 2nd, then 14th), I was expecting a move up in the rankings. Although The only thing we got this time around was #14 in Their Students (Almost) Never Study, which is probably accurate to a degree. Aviation, nursing, and pre-med students are the only people around here that buck that trend.

The University of Texas at Austin beat...last year's winner, the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Good, maybe my parents will be more at ease with my intentions to go to UW-Madison. Wink

Now that Bruce Pearl has gone, maybe it will calm down. When he came to coach the U.S.I Eagles in Evansville, the school turned into a major party school as the BBall team started winning. It looks like it followed him to UW-M, and then to Tennessee. I dont remember UW-M being a huge party school before, and now Tennessee is getting a bigger rep. Weird. Maybe its just me, but I dont believe much in coincidence.
