Clearing Computer Of All Info

Wed Aug 23, 2006 11:05 pm

OK my new laptop arrived yesterday and I had put most of my stuff on it and later afternoon yesterday, I went to plug my external speakers into the headphone jack and the connector doesn't stay in the jack, it doesn't click into it.

So I rang up Comet this morning to see what they said, and they said that either today or tomorrow the Comet Delivery Department will be contacting me to arrange a delivery date and time for a new laptop to be brought to my house in exchange for the faulty one.  Smile

My question is I will be putting my files onto temporary storage to transfer to the new laptop, but how do I get my info of it e.g It has my name on it for the Username.

After you've transferred your "important data" (read: porn Wink) to your external hard drive, wipe the one in the computer.

If you need more info, a thread on wiping hard drives was started in non-av fairly recently.
Better to be nouveau than never to have been riche at all.

OK, I don't want to WIPE the HDD, I just want to remove my name etc, if that is possible.

I would do a destructive format to ensure your details dont end up in someone elses hands.

Although if your replacement laptop is the same model as your current one, simply swap the hard disks and save yourself the hassle of transferring data.

It not as simple as that due to this is going to be exchange for a new one, so they will want this back and they won't want to hang around while the HDD is changed, and I don't know how to do it seen as I have never done it before.
