According to a recent news story, President Moshe Katsav of Israel, under investigation on allegations of sexual harassment, was extensively questioned by police interrogators at his office today. The report says that Katsav is suspected of coercing two female employees into sexual relations under threat of losing their jobs.

As if Israel didn't have enough to worry about....

So far it looks like they have more than enough to worry about.

1-Amnesty International on Wednesday accused Israel of war crimes, saying it broke international law by deliberately destroying Lebanon's civilian infrastructure during its recent war with Hizbullah fighters.

3- Israel Launches Official Probe into The Month-Long Lebanon War
Israel on Monday launched an inquiry into the conduct of the Jewish state's month-long war against Hizbullah in Lebanon as the government faced mounting domestic criticism..

4- Israeli Public Anger Grows Over Conduct of Lebanon War
Israeli public anger at the way the Jewish state's leaders conducted the war in Lebanon grew Monday, with a group of reservists publishing a public letter of protest and a top general saying the military was guilty of arrogance.

5- Attorney General Menachem Mazuz Sunday published the text of the indictment he is to file against outgoing Justice Minister Haim Ramon, who is to stand trial for indecent assault on charges of having forcibly kissed a female soldier in a government office.

One Lebanese praising another for posting links to a bunch of criticism of Israel from a Lebanese website. No one blaming Hezbollah for anything. What a surprise!

Not quite. I'm praising a fellow a.nutter for providing a good response to the thought that poor little Israel has enough to worry about without having to deal with their President raping his employees.

Your obvious delight in Israel's present difficulties seems misplaced when the second biggest problem Lebanon has is Hezbollah. (The biggest appears to be the Lebanese peoples' apparent love for Hezbollah! Israel is number 5,467 on the list, right behind the high price of Mercedes Benz parts.)

Quoting FOMEA (Reply 14):

What IS this thread about? A little gossip about a high government official in a nation where neither you nor I live and which will be taken care of by their own legal system. You and AirxLiban turned it into a gloat-fest over Israel's troubles.

Clean your own house before gossiping about Israel and the west might gain some respect for you.

It's a matter of opinion, if this is brilliant or not.

As for your Reply # 1, all I can say is that they are healthy signs of a Democracy. Where are the protests in Lebanon against Hezbollah? Where are the protests demanding the release of the captured Israeli soldiers? Where are the petitions to have Hezbollah disarmed? Where are the government investigations into how Hezbollah started a war that led to billions of destruction in Lebanon in return for nothing?

You often accuse me of not being optimistic about Lebanon; as if optimism will solve the very real and difficult problems facing the people of Lebanon. Until I see your average Lebanese demanding some of the above, you will not see my views change.

First of all, you've misjudged me and I concede that that might be my fault. To clarify I have no feelings of delight towards Israel's current difficulties thank you very much - quite the opposite, I symphatise with them on some levels and hope very much that their government will be able to continue providing for its citizens for the rest of time while at the same time not committing atrocities in its neighbouring countries.

What I do have feelings towards is the sentiment that Israel's woes are so great that having to deal with the president raping a bunch of his employees is just to much to bear. Please - when you compare the damage to Lebanon, particularly the human damage, they're not even in the same league. In the context of this, I find the call to pity in the thread opener a bit inappropriate.

The response from FOMEA was exactly what I would have said if I could have the words. I hope that that explains my reaction, even if you don't agree with my thought process.

You're right - I did take this thread off track with my completely irrelevant response. I'm sorry.

Respect? That's rich! The west which you speak of has become the laughing stock of much of the rest of the planet, inspiring disdain from intellectuals even in your own country much as it incites hatred amongst ignorant people who don't know any better than to judge a nation's people by the actions of its government. And all for what?

Cleaning up our own house will come - slowly, but surely. Whether or not that will gain us the respect of some random guy from northern Nevada is completely irrelevant.

Westerners have been the blondes of the rest of the world for a long time. It is mostly because of the shear gullibility of most westerners, who, at the sight of someone who doesn't have as much money as they do, drop all their defenses, and allow themselves to be fooled into pretty much anything. Case in point: Canadian MPs who are lobbying to remove Hezbollah from the list of terrorist organizations.

That is nothing new. Our "intellectuals" have always found fault with people who actually make things happen, be they the actual leaders of the country or the thousands of ordinary people who do things for intellectuals that the intellectuals are incapable of doing for themselves. Ward Churchill is an intellectual. That is all he knows how to be. Anyone who has ever personally accomplished anything, achieved anything outside of college has little regard for intellectuals.

Quoting AirxLiban (Reply 19):

I remember on CNN immediately after the fall of Baghdad, an older man in the street telling those around him that construction had already begun on the oil pipeline to Israel. It was a lie (a sin under Islam?) and a foolish one at that. No such thing was happening. There is no doubt in my mind that he believed it then and fifty years from now when it still hasn't happened, if he was still alive he'd still believe it. I've heard similar pronouncements more recently from Lebanese regarding one aspect or another of the current situation. Since there is nothing REALITY can do to influence such people, what does it matter what the west says or does.
