Interesting, I'm sure the 'hispanic' race will be so easily recognizable since I'm sure they all look totally alike, since as we all know speaking the same language makes a hispanic of african descent share the same genetic background as a hispanic of indian and european descent.. talk about absolute ignorance, my my.

That show went down the shit hole years back, but this could be funny. Unlike most Americans, I have a sense of humor about this stuff, but this idea will be killed by the PC Police.

Anytime the black team loses Al Sharpton will be all over CBS for giving the whites an advantage.  Wink

It will be funny to see America's reaction.

It might even distract some from FOX for a short while. Cool!

Personally, I find that Survivor hit a new low unto itself when it first came out all those years ago. But heck, leave it to the morons who created a crap show years ago to make it even worse now... And just for the record, no, I still won't watch an episode.
It may be too early to drink scotch... But it is NEVER too early to think about it...

Reality TV has generally appealed to the lowest common denominator. But this is as low as you could go.

Normally I would suggest people to boycott the show... but I think that won't be necessary. I mean, who watches that show anymore? It's become so formulaic that the only way they could pique our interest was to introduce a controversial element to the show.

What's next, a 'gay' tribe and a 'straight' tribe? An 'able bodied' tribe vs. a 'disabled' tribe? I should probably shut up before they get anymore ideas...

I don't watch these shows as they are so stupid, silly and usually show the worst in human beheavor. I don't find them entertaining, I would rather watch something on the History, Discovery or other non-broadcast channels.
Black leaders and activists are already bashing CBS network for this 'Survivor' team division. I am surprised that the non-white contestants allowed them to be divided this way, but when money is on the line that can make people shut up quick.
I would suspect that Sharpton and other activists in the Black, Hispanic and Asian communities in the USA are already contacting the expected advertisers of this show to ask them to pull thier ads and local stations to not show this show.

17 million people on average per episode. yes, it's down almost 11 million from when it first began, but after 13 seasons, those numbers are astronomical.

the show is a cash cow for the network and for the affiliates based on production costs versus income and revenue. there could be as a little as 2 million people watching per episode and the show would still be raking in the profits.

I saw an episode of 5 for Dinner with Roger Corman as a guest (along with Rob Zombie and BRUCE! campbell for you philistines) and he explained the low budget process using two slanted lines as an air graphic chart.

One line is the cost of making the show....it goes upwards from left to right.

the next line is the income derived from showing the show....it goes down or up from left to right.

At some point in the life if a television series or movie (and it's sequels) you have the first line moving downwards (inevitable) and the production cost line invariably moves up if for no other reason that inflation and the talent demanding more of the pie.

When the lines cross you stop making the show....until then you make it because that's money in the bank.

It is still surprisingly high. But trends show that viewers are leaving quickly. The past two seasons have shown a 25% drop in viewers alone. It is really a desperate ploy to entice viewers. Producers are clearly hoping that this variation of Survivor becomes America's dirty pleasure.

While it may be profitable, losing more and more viewers will force it off the lucrative Thursday night schedule. All these gimmicky things won't keep that from happening.

Last dying gasp of a fading show. They were all freaks from the beginning. A shame too since the producer Mark Burnett started off so many years ago with a really great survivor show, the Ecochallenge Race. Does that even still exist? I haven't seen it on the Discovery Channel for a long time. I thought that was some really great programming. About the only reality show that comes even close to that is the Amazing Race and they take pains to screw that one up by finding at least 3 sets of freaks for every season.

So last season the show divided contestants into groups of older men, younger men, older women and younger women. So was age discrimination just happy talk television? Just to play devil's advocate for a moment, was that better? Is this worse?

As I didn't watch Survivor last year (or the years before that), I wasn't aware that they divided the tribes based on age and gender. This year however the media has picked up the racial element of the new Survivor. And of course the reason the media has picked up the story is because it sees racism as a much more polarizing issue. It's certainly much more sensationalistic than 'age discrimination', and frankly many people care more about racism than ageism.

It's an unfortunate reflection on society, but ageism is not nearly as taboo as racism. While many people are offended at being labelled a 'racist', virtually no one is labelled an 'ageist' for teasing senior citizens (and even if they were labelled as such, the label has no or little emotional meaning). In society's eyes, ageism barely registers on the mind-- but racial matters sends emotions off the charts.

I think it will be quite amusing though I gave up on reality shows after the second season. What will be interesting to see is the attitudes within each team when they are beat by another team as well as the attitudes towards the other teams. Bigotry and racism exists across all races so don't expect the white folks to be the only ones throwing out some dumb stereotypes in this show.

Right...because blacks, asians, and hispanics are completely free of racial bigotry. Do you really think we are that dumb and naive?
