MSP Nasty Weather

Fri Aug 25, 2006 8:38 am

We just got done with one round of storms. Hail was 10 cm just a few miles from me. A few 8-inch trees down.

Now there are two or three tornadoes south of MSP. Upper shear is about 120 knots. Now, an additional supercell is forming just northwest of Minneapolis.

Yeah, I'm sitting in Brainerd and watching the news. Tornado on the ground down by Mankato, 100+ MPH winds, lot's of hail. All were getting is some thunder here and there and a little rain. Sounds like some houses have been damaged pretty good down south. Hope everyone is OK.

Those were straight-line winds. The weather folks think the tornadoes were F2 and F3 based on damage north of Mankato called in by professional weather folks. It's in Warsaw, MN now.

The Minnesota State Fair has been closed.

My rain gauge shows 2.75 inches so far. That's since 16:00.

Ouch. You mentioned the foul wx when we spoke on the phone earlier, Mark. MSP musta been a cluster of red-tails (or whatever they are now) Exactly why I live where I do - ya know, the lack of water.

There is one death in MN confirmed. A tornado claimed the life of one elderly man.
