Tri-Tip Steak (Triangle Roast)

I had never heard of this cut before until this week. Sitting around eating ribs with a couple of my California buddies, the topic of Tri-tip steak came up. After hearing the raving comments and stories I set out to find me one. I tried Costco and Sams Club with no success. Then I went to my local butcher who said he can get them anytime. So this weekend I will be cooking one up. I`m open for any pointers on preparing this steak and any stories from our California peeps. I hear this cut is very popular out on the left coast. Tri-tip, that's good eats. I've only ever done them on the Weber.

Tri-tip: the pride of Santa Maria. It seems to be the California equivalent of bratwurst in the midwest: it shows up at every summer grill-out. Also popular at stalls in farmer's markets (San Luis Obispo's comes to mind, and of course, in Santa Maria.) Make sure it's cut with -- or is it against? -- the grain...hmm, better look that up somewhere, I remember it being important but not the details.
