Back To School Blues

Wed Sep 06, 2006 5:25 am

I'm back to school in a couple of days and am not looking forward to it. It is quite ironic that I have spent less time on this website since I broke up, I though I'd be on it a lot more. Just though I'd open a moaning thread for all the youngsters and a cheering thread for all parents.

I had my first day of grade 10 today. (Sept 5) It started at 08:40 and ended at 12:30. We didn't really do anything, the teachers just talked to us. I have Fitness, English, Civics/Careers, and History. Should be a relatively easy semester. I hate english class. It's pointless when I know how to speak it.  grumpy

Yeah, well I still have a good 5 hours of Calculus, Mechanics, and Materials Engineering ahead of me. THAT's sad. You just have to suck it up and deal with it.

Honestly, though, October used to be the worst month for me. No days off, it's starting to get cold, and still so far away from the end of the year.

Quite a fun day. My first semester is all easy stuff (2 courses then lunch/co-op). My 2nd semester will be tough. I've got Tech Design, Math, English and Chemistry in 1 sem. Co-Op allows students to earn 2 credits (morning or aft co-op) or 4 credits (full day co-op) by doing an apprenticeship program at a place of business. Some people want to work in a hospital, law office, ACC, etc. The teacher finds you a placement, you go for an interview and the business chooses if they want to "hire" you or not. My choices were Toronto Airways (Buttonville airport) or Graphic Designer. We've got 2 weeks of in-class then 4 weeks on the job, a week in class, a 2 more weeks on the job and then 3 days in class final culminating project.

It should be fun.

YYZflyer: Enjoy Civics/Careers each is a 0.5 credit. I really loved those courses. You have to do your Careers project on a pilot, because your an a.netter. Big grin

Guys - there's a really shocking day coming for you in a few years time, around age 21/22 after uni/college, when you have to work for a living and discover there are two seven o'clocks in the same day...

Trust me now, school days are the best days of your life! Enjoy them whilst you can!

yeah I found that out in kindergarten... we started at 8:00AM and it takes about 40 minutes for me to drive to school and then middle school started at 8:15 and now High school starts at 7:30... I went to an optional primary program so we started earlier then all of the other primary schools  Sad

Quoting Notar520AC (Reply 13):

sort of like mine, except you get 10 minutes less  Sad

I am in the hardest program in the state (Alaska), about 75 kids make it into the program for our 9th and 10th grade and then in our 11th and 12th grade about only 20 or maybe even less make it into the International Baccalaureates program. So its a tough cookie to eat, but as long as I make it crumble my way I should be all good! I just have to get my A into G and keep it there  Wink

Anyways good luck with school for everyone else and I know as well as you that I can't wait for summer!!!

Enjoy it, it's a great time. By the time you hit Gr. 12 or whatever they call it there, your senior year I believe, you start drinking in the parking lot on lunch and spare and then go to your afternoon classes half in the bag.

Nope - i'm not doing that one, i have mine in march as we use a different exam board (AQA i think). I've got 14 (14!!!) GCSE's on the way, if i pass them all:
English
Maths (upper tier i think)
Science (not a clue)
Food Technology (suck at all the others and i tend to set fire/break the machines)
German
Geography
PSE
PE
RE
ICT DiDA (4 GCSE's, woo!)

Shame that the school is a technology school and i have to do it, plus they force you to do RE.

My son went back to school today, starting year 12. He was keen to get back and, by all accounts, enjoyed it. He has his timetable, his new suit and he is happy with his tutors. He's looking forward to the next two years of study for his A/S and A levels.

I'm still not sure he really is my son, I was NEVER like that! Big grin

didnt realise there were so many kids on a-net.
anyway, my 4 year old son started school today. have just come back from leaving him at school.
he behaved in such a grown up fashion. confidently went into his classroom, found his box in the corner with his name written on it, put his stuff neatly. i was amazed. at home he still doesnt know where his toys go !!
& then he waved me goodbye & went back into his classroom. i was so emotional.

but i have fond memories of my own school & undoubetdly they were the best days of life - even though i didnt know it then.

First year university science is so difficult! It looks like I'll be spending all of my time working. These are my courses this semester:

Biology (Ecology, Genetics, and Evolution) - There is so much material to cover!
Biology (Bacteria Biology) - I heard this is the most difficult of all my courses. It's designed to make you fail!
English (Academic writing) - This seems so difficult! The English department didn't tell anybody who the prof was, so by chance I got stuck with this hard one! I already have a paper due on the 21st!
Chemistry - Does not seem too difficult right now, but the labs take forever to complete!

I'm so worried about my grades that will be released this December...

Well my first week of grade 12 is now done (only a 3 day week, Monday was labour day and today (Friday) is a school closed day). Been liking it so far, going to miss school when it's done. Grade 1-12 sounded like forever and impossible when I still had to live it, but now that I'm in the last year of it and can look back at all those other years, it feels like it all started just a few months ago.

But this year has been going great so far, so hopefully things will continue to go well. Currently doing Principals of Math 11 (did it last year but my mark wasn't very good and my teacher kind of screwed me over, so I'm doing it again because I feel I can do better); Chem 12, English 12 and Introduction to Trades. Next semester I'll be doing Sled Ed (basically mechanics class but specializing in snowmobiles), Principals of Math 12, Physics 12 and at this point it looks like I'll have a spare as well.

Here's to another year everyone, Hopefully we can all enjoy a fun filled year and success in all our courses!
