Anyone Else Unable To Stop Watching 9/11 Coverage?

Sun Sep 10, 2006 12:34 pm

Right now, Discovery Channel, and soon (Tomorrow and monday) a few others, are aving a sort of marathon of documentaries on 9/11.. Does anyone else find them extremely hard to turn off? I've been watching different ones on the Discovery Channel for about 2 hours now, and no matter how sad it gets, I can't get myself to turn it off, because I want to know/see all I possibly can about that day.. I was in class that day, and couldn't see the coverage until about 3pm (Central Time) that day, so while everything was happening, I had to imagine what was happening through the radio.

My teacher told us 2 planes had "crashed" into the WTC, and I remember instantly thinking "If they were small, everything will be okay.. If they were big, I'm not so sure". (I'm now out of school, but will never forget every little detail of that day)

Anyways, enough of my rant... Has anyone else found it hard to turn these shows off, even though they're extremely saddening?

Edit: Typo, and extra sentence

Right now I'm watching the NBC/Tom Brokaw documentary from 2002 about the controller's who handled the planes that day: The Skies Over America.

I probably won't go out of my way to watch anything else except for the free replay of CNN's coverage from 9/11 they'll have on the web on Monday, because I slept through the entire episode the morning it occurred, and never saw how it all unfolded in real time.

It was scary to watch the Discovery Channel show. There were some portions where I wanted to see and some that I didn't like when the people were trapped in the building when it collapsed. It still brings back a lot of issues with me after seeing the real thing happened on TV and nearly scared me half to death. I still could not believe that man had survived in his office when the UA 767 hit near him. "When the Plane crashes, you die! I survived!" And when he saw the plane comming toward and how he dove under his desk.

Still sad to see but I will still watch it!!!!!!!!!

I can't watch anything about 9/11 because it only makes me upset and angry. And that emotion no longer comes from the event, but at how the event has been so horribly exploited and manipulated.

Awhile back I posted a thread asking if the CNN webcast was really necessary. After a few of the responses (like AeroWesty's) I realized that there are folks like you and he that, for whatever reason, 'missed' the experience, so I don't begrudge you going back through it. I do think it important that everyone see and understand what happened and what it meant.

However, I don't have any intention of watching anything related to 9/11 for the next week. I still can't shake the feeling that much of it is being done as a crass attempt to cash in on the still raw emotions. In addition, I still have vivid memories of watching the towers come down and the panic that ensued across the country that day, I don't really want to see it replayed.

It happend, we know what happened, no need to watch it over and over again. There was a one page article about it in the Vancouver Sun today, I got about half way through, there were no new opinions or information, no need to read/watch what I already know.

Supposedly ABC will be airing a largely fabricated '90% Bashing of the Democrats' miniseries 'drama' tonight and tomorrow night, complete with Bush coming on in the middle of the second installment to give his bull$hit views on the subject. Say what you will, but it's hard to fault their impeccable timing.

Everything I ever worried that the Corporate America and Conservative America would ever do to totally f_ckup my country (and by extension the planet) is apparently coming true right before my very eyes. Rejoice in the splendor of pure, Grade-A bull$hit that is the American political system, provided courtesy of a free giveaway by Corporate America. 'Liberal Media' my A$$.

About 2 months ago, there was a thread on a.net saying cnn would broadcast a free video of all their footage, starting 2 minutes after the first plane hit the WTC.

IS CNN still doing this?

Yes, and MSNBC is doing it as well, only on-air instead of online..

MSNBC re-play starts at 8:30am Eastern Time
