Road Trippin' Again: Montreal

Sat Sep 16, 2006 8:15 am

Well, Trekster and I are thinking about heading north of the border tomorrow (Saturday) to Montreal for a couple hours for lunch. Any suggestions of where to eat? Anyone feel like having lunch with some fellow a.netters? Thanks for your help.

Any of the Smoked Meat joints downtown will do! Reuben's, on Ste-Catherine, Ben's on de maisonneuve, Schwartz's on St-Laurent, etc. Get a poutine, too!

Sadly, I've just moved to YYZ for the year - otherwise I would've met up with y'all.

My wife and I had a very nice meal in Montreal, but it's been a couple of years and I can't for the life of me remember the name of the restaurant.

Have a nice time...  bigthumbsup

Screw Shwartz's. The place is a dump and it's for tourists who are led to believe it's something out of this world. If you want Montreal Smoked Meat go to Main Deli (right across the street from Shwartz's) or go to Lester's Deli on St. Bernard West in Outremount (its a fancy name for some part of Montreal). Try the fries' at Lesters, their awesome.

$1 steamies (hot dogs) from Decarie Hot Dog are good too. They also have poutine. If you go to the hot dog place there is a store called "Hobbieville" with a few model planes. It's on the opposite side of Decarie hot dog. A block or so before it.

Well, it all depends on what you want... Montreal offers a LOT of food options. I don't live in Montreal but I'm pretty close and I just love the city. Too bad, I might be going out next week-end but everything is still "maybe". Anyways, smoked meat is a Montreal signature. All I can say is, Ste-Catherine, although a shopper's and sex club haven has really a limited choice of food options.

Other than smoked meat: St-Laurent and St-Denis have some very good restaurants but some excellent tourist traps as well so If it's full, then it's often a good sign, especially now that the touristic peak season is over. Le Plateau has some very athentic Montréal offerings too on Avenue Mont-Royal (although it can be hard to park). I always just find a spot somewhere downtown and use the subway. It's just more convenient.

Hope this helps!

Find poutine, and crash on a street corner with thy palms up. You may have a few bob in your hand when thou wakest.

BTW, Patrick, I'm taking my dad for brunch on Sunday, then I have a rehearsal with my band from 2-4. So, don't bother calling before 4, unless it's before noon. Patriots after that if you are still in town. Dive bar.

Sounds good, I'll be able to be around through at least the first half  Smile
