He was moved after that unfortunate episode when the sailors complained about there being a couple of inches in the well. The captain, misunderstanding entirely, tried to get them to pump ship, whereupon streams of what had once been pasty came flying out of the fire hoses. Nasty.

Piracy a major problem there, was it?

Raids from the buccaneer-infested dry shoals of Ithaca were a common occurrence. During the early Jacobean period, the Royal Navy maintained a squadron of ships at Albany to fight off these raids, but daring French and Portuguese corsairs continued to rampage unchecked through the tropical cays of Syracuse, and even reached the fabled Inca golden city of Rochester, where they carried off an estimated 5 million ounces of gold.

Oh, indeed. Definite irony to put the whole plot on the opposite side of the continent to the place in question. Still, just minor detour really, tramping across the entire continent and back again.

Tch. Amazing that the Americans struggle with irony like that really. Silly them.

Whoever heard of Albany, Oregon ? Why can't they have original place names in America, not just copy ones that have already been used. It would save a lot of confusion.

And anyway, Albany NY was a much funnier choice because it is far from the sea, and unutterably tedious in every way, hence piracy would be amusing there. I despair utterly.

An understandable error. Still, it didn't stop Hollywood beating a path to your door, did it? Just think of your contribution to cinema over the years....There was Krakatoa, East of Java; there was the fine moment in Robin Hood:Prince of Thieves where he landed at Hadrian's Wall and walked to London that afternoon; all those Sherlock Holmes films with a Tower of London that hadn't actually been built in the background. Outstanding.

Still, it's a good job you didn't absolutely crucify all the Americans for lack of geographical knowledge in that recent thread, isn't it? Otherwise they might pass comment. Big grin

It seemed a reasonable tactic to a man who gets his geography round by a mere several thousand miles. I do regret not making it fractionally harder though. London Bridge would have been a better example for the intellectually challenged like yourself.

I do no such thing. I merely set a test for you, deliberately low, based on your appalling ignorance in making a marginal error of a few thousand miles. One can only weep with pity at the disgraceful standard of education within the the lower level of public school, such as that ultimately forced to accept JGP1HA all those years ago. One can understand the doctors wishing to be shot of him, but the poor school...

One can only say he now requires a comprehensive education to make up for his comprehensive education.
