More Good News For Opie & Anthony!

Wed Sep 20, 2006 9:54 am

"Meanwhile, trends are starting to roll in and the duo showed continued growth at their flagship station of WFNY/New York City, with their key demo of Men 18-34 showing a trend of 4.0, which is up from 3.2 in the Spring book. Persons 18-34 were at a 3.4 in the Spring book and the latest trend shows O&A up to a 4.5 while Persons 25-54 checked in at 3.4, up from a 2.8 in the Spring book. "

I am sure Howard is royally pissed that they are doing all of this from his former seat in his former studio. I hope he likes Sirius and the five people that listen to him over there.

That's great for the boys.

I went up to NYC and did the walk with them this summer. It was fantastic. I also saw lil' Jimmy at the Comedy Cellar. He was fancy.

Agreed. I'm surpised the SFN hasn't infiltrated this thread and spewed the Howie lies. Maybe someone can start a thread in Civ-Av about the Howie Copter.

'Lil Jimmy's show, Lucky Louie, was just cancelled by HBO.

Too bad for Norton, but they shouldn't have showed so much penis.

I highly doubt he's pissed. Howard really doesn't care whats happening on Terrestrial Radio anymore. He's not paid by ratings anymore, and he has a 5 year contract, so what does he care?

And, for the note -- I am a Stern Fan, but I really do wish O&A the best. I hope they do well, and I hope they kick ass on Terrestrial radio.

I figured that would happen. The cast, in the beginning didn't really go well together. It seemed a little ackward, and it was a hard show to get into. I don't have HBO, and downloaded only the first few shows, got paranoid about it, and didn't get anymore, so I don't know how well they got along together toward the end.

Exactly. Why would Stern give a crap about O&A? I highly doubt O&A are getting paid as much as he is. They do not have the creative freedom Howard does. Oh, and millions more than "5" fans listen to Stern.

Then there is always this fact. If Stern was still on Terrestrial radio...would Opie and Anthony even be back on terrestrial radio or would they still be sinking at XM? O&A needed Stern to leave regular radio before they could get any kind of foothold...yet you think Howard would care about these ratings. Right.

With the cancellation of Lucky Louie we can only hope a spin off of "Norton & friends" will appear.

This is true, they are not getting paid as much as Howie is, they freely admit that. But what creative freedom does Howie have that O & A don't? You mention creative, Howard hasn't been creative in years. Without guys like jackie the joke man, Artie and Billy West, he would have nothing. these people made the show and he barely gives credit.

Well, I've been a listener for almost 7 years now, and.. I will beg to differ on your statement about creativity. The last 10 months on Sirius have been the funniest moments I've heard in the last 7 years...

And, Howard is the FIRST person to give credit to Jackie, to Artie, and recently even to Billy West. As a matter of fact, Howard recently even made it clear on the air that the shows success at Sirius is in large part to Artie being 'unleashed' and being able to say/do whatever he wants, and whatever is natural!

Quoting JFK69 (Reply 8):

Well, first off.. lets get one thing straight. Howard needed to help Sirius bring over 1 million listeners in order to pay for his contract, on a yearly basis.

Since Howard let everyone know that he was moving to Satellite Radio, Sirius has taken 67% of the retail marketshare, changed positions with XM in the retail marketplace, and over 6 million people have subscribed to Sirius.

Now, Howard is the first to admit that he cannot even remotely qualify that 6 million people are listening to his channel. But, he does admit that things at Sirius and XM are MUCH different to terrestrial radio.. ON Satellite radio, the measure of success is by how many people are listening, period. It has nothign to do with who's listening to what stations, etc.

Howard has routinely and repeatedly said that he doesn't care if only 1 million people listen to him daily, that he, as a Sirius employee, has helped bring enough listeners to SIRIUS either directly, OR indirectly to pay for *his* contract, plus more.

Ratings don't mean a thing on Satellite when it comes to individual shows/channels.

And, to finish off.. people said that no one would pay for Cable.. and then when Satellite TV came out, the same people who said they woudln't pay for Cable, were now saying they wouldn't pay for Satellite TV.. well, guess what? LOL. Lots of them have converted.

The same argument can be made about Blu-Ray and High Def T.V. Personally, I don't see ANY difference when I look at a High Def T.V, or rather, not enough difference for me to go out and spend an extra 3000$ to buy a new t.v, and get a new receiver, etc etc.. But, in 2-3 years, who knows? Maybe it'll grow on me..

Satellite radio is still in it's infancy. It may have been around for a while technologically, but en-mass, it's still in it's infancy.

When was the last time you heard of Jackie the Joke Man doing something...anything since he quit the Stern Show? Let me answer that for you. You haven't, unless he was being discussed on Stern or he stopped by the show as it was ending on regular radio or starting on Sirius. And Artie and Billy and such are all funny guys but on their own they just don't have it. Howards show is all about being a team and he is the first one as mentioned to credit everyone.

That is BS that it's all about being a team for Howard's Show. He may make it seem that way but 99% of radio shows are "Teams". Howard surrounds himself with talent (Which he should like any smart radio host) but the way he treats these people suck. Jackie left over a contract dispute. How much could he have possibly asked for? Was he taking millions away from Howard?????..........But you will answer "No No No, it was the radio station and PD that wouldn't give him the money!!" if Howard wanted to he could have gotten Jackie the money.

Now let's take a look at BaBaBooey Gary. This is a guy who has given his blood and tears to the show and he still has to go out to do bar gigs. Is he doing this to "meet the fans" or is he doing it to make cash since he isn't making nearly enough with the show. Then his dad dies and Howard doesn't even show to the wake.....yeah, nice leader of a team.

I do agree with you that these guys have nothing without Howard. They should milk it for all it's worth. They know Howard has a top rated show and that Howard is the name so stay on board and line their pockets with fame.....

No Howie Math talk here.

Dude, Howard wasn't paying Jackie - Viacom or CBS or WXRQ was. Jackie's contract talks were with Station GM Tom Chiasano - Not Howard, or Howards agent. Also, jackie had a L-O-N-G history of "quiting" the show, and demanding more money and such. Apparently it got old enough where they just let his ass stay gone. That was not Howard's doing. Howard is extremely loyal to those who work on his show and he would not have thrown Jackie under the bus as you claim he did.

I agree with you 100% that Howard doesn't pay them, Thats why I said it in my previous post. I understand that it is the radio station, Viacom...whatever, that paid Jackie, but Howard should have stood up for him. If Howard went to Mel and said "Give Jackie what he wants" don't ya think Mel would have said yes? Jackie actually stood up for himself and realized that Howard was making all the money, and he wanted a piece that he rightfully deserved. It obviously backfired in his face, but at least he tried.

No offense my man, but its pretty clear you are going of partial knowledge. Howard stood up for Jackie. Time and time again in fact. Like I said, Jackie had a history of leaving/quitting the show when he did not get what he wanted. So many times Howard had his back and helped smooth things over. However at what point does it get to be too much? Saying he should have said "Give jackie whatever he wants" is absurd. I know for a fact if I went and told my boss that he would laugh me right out the door with a pink slip.

Yes I am going on partial knowledge of the jackie situation, but I am working on the loyalty front. Obvisouly if Jackie was asking for millions of dollars I would tell him to get the F out myself. But if Howard really wanted him, and thought he deserved what he was asking for, he would have done more at the end. Obvisouly for fans it was a great move because Artie is hillarious. At the end of the day, if the people working under me wanted something that I thought they deserved, I would fight for them till the end.

Im curious, what your thoughts on Robin are?

Howard did want him. He said this. BUT, like I have said a bunch of times Jackie threatened to quit/leave several times. He ALWAYS made a big stink about his contract etc. It finally reached a point that no matter how great Jackie was, and how much Howard wanted him, the whole package just wasn't worth it.

Robin. I like Robin to be honest. I think she adds a lot to the show. She is very candid and I like that. She can be annoying at times, but she has a very direct, stoic sense of humor and it really adds to the show and helps balance over the top things like Sal and Richard.

It was reported in several papers AFTER Jackie left the show, that he was offered quite a sum of money, well over a million $ dollars..

Jackie DID have a history or walking off at contract time. He equated his job to a blue-collar worker at Ford, where he could walk off, leverage the fans against CBS/Viacom/Infinity, etc, and then use that as bargaining power..

The thing is, it never worked.

And, to be honest.. I think the show has been MUCH better without him.

Jackie has routinely said that Howard was always there for him, during negotiations, and during other times of his life..

The Howard you hear on the radio, you have to remember, is a *character*. The real Howard isn't like that..

I have the fortunate luck to be friends with a Radio Jockey, and it's funny listening to him on the air, because he's NOTHING like his on-air personality..

It's all an act.. remember that.
