Which Laptop Do Ya'll Have?

Sat Sep 23, 2006 6:25 pm

Just out of curiosoty, what kind of laptop do you guys have (the ones that have one obviously) and how pleased are you with it?

I got a HP nx6310 the last month myself, my first laptop. I am very pleased with it, $800 i gave for it and so far it hasn't given me any troubles. It's surprisingly fast to be a 1,46Ghz Celeron (although a M410) and the build quality feels suberb. Only thing that i regret is the fact that the same model was sold with an AMD 3500+ CPU, fingerprint reader and memorycard reader for the same price. It was sold out everywhere though so i didnt wait for it and got this one instead.

I have always had good experiences with HP and i will certainly buy their products in the future. Best thing being that they are on the top 100 sustainable corporations list too, great!  bouncy

A Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Xi1546 - cost about £1000. It has an Intel Dual Core 2GHz processor with wireless capability, an ATI 256MB graphics card and a 17" LCD screen, which is great for movies and games. IT also has 2GB of RAM, though only came with 1 as standard.

It was bought as a desktop replacement, which is why it is expensive and powerful.

I have a Sony Laptop VGN-15GP;
Intel Centrino 1.50GHz;
Harddisk 40 GB;
Memory 512MB;

Lucky the specs are on a sticker attached next to the keyboard.

Its been everywhere this past year. Computer has been so handy as it has 802.11b/g Wifi. Big grin

I have a Sony VAIO VGN-FE11S (about $1700):
- Intel Core Duo T2400 1.83 GHz
- Harddisk 160 GB
- 15.4" display
- 1 GB RAM
- wireless, bluetooth, webcam, firewire
- DVD+/-RW DL
- memory card reader

I'm very happy with it - it replaced my old Apple Powerbook G4 17", which was too large to be carried around. Why I didn't buy a MacBook you might ask? They weren't available yet when I got the VAIO, and I needed native Windows support for some work applications.

Toshiba Satellite M40X, with Centrino 1.4. I pais $1099 for it at one of the department stores here when they were clearing out old stock (Myers) the original price marked on it was $2500. No probs so far, as with all Toshibas, it is beautifully made.

I have a Hell Inspiron 1000. Paid about US$1000 for it almost 2 years ago to the day. It has an Intel Celeron 2.2GHz processor, 40GB HD (originally 30, but it was on the fritz, so I bought a new one about 6 months ago,) 224MB of RAM. The battery life has gone to the shits lately. I need it for school, my note taking is a lot more effective typing than writing. I'm thinking about buying a new laptop or seeing what's the deal with the continuously shitty battery life.

I've got an Acer TravelMate 4060 (Pentium M740 1.73MHz, 15.4" Wide-TFT, 100GB HDD, DVD writer, 1GB memory) which I use as my private computer (though I do have a regular PC standing around in the next room - I just barely use that any more).

And at the office, I've got my old Acer Aspire 1300, no idea what CPU is in there, but it's got 512MB memory and a 60GB HDD.
Smile - it confuses people!

A Twinhead which is very shy about telling you which model it is!!

Belarc tells me:
Twinhead P14N 1.0
Asset Tag: 0123ABC

Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 07.00T 04/02/01
2000 megahertz Intel Pentium 4
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache
40.00 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
Slimtype COMBO LSC-24081 [CD-ROM drive]
376 Meg of RAM

The CD drive is actually a DVD/CD- CDwriter so naughty Belarc.

I waited until the CD-R machines came down below $Aus3000 which was early 2004 (I think!!).

Now you can get a version with 60GB and a DVD writer for about half the price or less perhaps.

Advantages of the Twinhead were advertised as its drop resistance and ability to drink coffee, or at least not be affected by a large coffee spill on the keyboard.

To my surprise, I have not tested its ability to drink coffee, but my wife checked out the drop resistance, one metre to a wooden floor on its corner and you cannot even see where it landed and no effect at all on the #8n8(()),> oh the keyboard. I jest, I am actually typing from a remote wireless keyboard.

It was reasonable value at the time, not too heavy, and has proved reliable in a range of countries.

A DLL in the Windows 2000 on my desktop "disappeared" allowing it to do everything but connect to my intranet, so I am using the Twinhead now for this and suffering the benefits of XP!

It runs Office, Lotus ME, Photoshop and who knows what else.

I have a Dell XPS m140. I almost never use it because my desktop is nicer and more powerful, but it's surprisingly good when I do take it out. The specs are pretty standard (Pentium M, 1 GB RAM, yadda yadda) apart from the 7200 RPM hard disk. I don't have any noise complaints to write home about, and you can really notice the speed.

Then again, I did do a clean install of Windows with a full format to get rid of all the Dell bloatware that came with it.  Yeah sure

The only really stellar thing about this machine is the warranty. 4 years of "accidental damage" coverage, and it only cost me $136. Basically, I can chuck this thing off a roof and they'll still repair/replace it for free.  Smile

I've got an Asus A6712U-LH. Very pleased with it - relatively cheap, fast and feels solid and well built. The only thing it lacks is decent graphics power (I have to make do with the onboard SiS M760GX graphics chip rather than a dedicated ATi or nVidia card) but otherwise it's excellent.

That means that I use Danish keyboard layout which is a little confusing in the beginning because nothing is where it seems on the keyboard but I have gotten used to it.

I think the flat front exaggerates the thickness, especially in that photo. I've seen a few in real life, and they're quite nice and compact.  Smile

Hi,

I have a HP Compaq NC4000 for almost 3 years now.

Centrino (first generation) @ 1.3 Ghz
Ram 768 Mo
HDD 60 Go @ 7200 rpm (THAT makes a BIG difference)
Bluetooth, wifi
No firewire unfortunately
12' monitor.
Windows XP Pro, Office 2003, Virtual PC, ...

I'm still very happy with this one. Good design, reliable, very light. Almost the perfect machine. My former one was on 15' Dell Inspiron. I will for sure only go for ultra light laptop now.

I plan to change it in 07 to accommodate Vista.

I have two laptops.

One which I rarely use is my old HP pavilion ze4500 with a 15 inch screen which I had for nearly 3 years.

My 2nd laptop is only 6 months old and it's a Toshiba Satellite M65-S821 17 inch TruBrite widescreen LCD. Intel Pentium "M" processor 740, 512MB DDR2 SDRAM, 120GB (5400 RPM) HHD, DVD, DVD+R/RW, just a few specs.

The only thing I can complain is weight. It serves me well but now it becoming old so most probably I will have to think about replacement soon. Hope Lenovo's ThinkPad's has the same quality.
