Tigers To Play In October

Sun Sep 24, 2006 10:49 am

Detroit 15 Kansas City 0 going into the 8th. I feel very comfortable to state the Detroit Tigers have now clinched a tie for at least the wild card slot in the American League.

Who wudda thunk? Thing is, they won't last long in the playoffs. They've proven time and time again, late in the season, they just can't win the must win games. At least 3 times in the past month, month and a half, they have gone into a game knowing ahead of time that MN had lost and a win would put an even larger gap between themselves and the Twins. What'd they do? They choked and lost.

That being said, it is good to see the Tigers being something than a laughing stock of the league. The Lions, on the other hand...

Don't bet on a quick fold by the Tigers in the playoffs. They have the deepest pitching, are hitting again from the top to the bottom of the order, and have a genius for a manager. This team is made up of professionals who pull for one another, and enjoy being and playing together. A great mix of youth and experience. Prediction: With Polanco back, the "slump" is over. They will finish winning the A.L. Central. They have an 11-8 advantage in the head-to-head season series against MN, meaning their lead in the division this Sunday evening (after sweeping the Royals in K.C.) is actually 2.5 games. They also again have the best record in the A.L.

It's our turn. Go get'em Tigers!!!!
Maggs swings, it's a drive deep to left! The Tigers are going to the World Series!!!

6 games left for the Tigers, (3 with KC, 3 with the Blue Jays) they might still hold on, and based on the hitting this weekend (okay it was the Royals) and the strong pitiching once in the playoffs anything can happen.

That's a total lost cause. Again why did they renew Matt Millen contract?

Sweeping the Royals is always a hard thing to do, being the great team that they are. If A's are matched up with DET in the first round (likely), the A's win that series.

What do you not get that this is the Lions?  Wink

Either way, glad to see somebody other than the Red Wings win in Detroit  duck
Well I believe it all is coming to an end. Oh well, I guess we are gonna pretend.

Agreed on 2 out of 3 of your points. Leyland is definitely a genius and should probably be manager of the year. But why does he keep Granderson as his lead off hitter? If he doesn't lead the league in strike outs, he's very close. Yes, he's got speed but all that does is get him back to the dugout quicker when he strikes out.

When you say "win". I assume you mean everything but the big prize, right? The Wings, while being the "best team in hockey" during the regular season keep coming up short come play off time (yes, they won the cup in 97 and 98 and again in 2002. Old news). Pistons, same story. Don't get me wrong, I am a diehard Wings fan but it's going to be awhile before Stanley sees the Motor City again. I hope I am wrong but I don't see the Tiges seeing the pennant this year. Perhaps in 07, when they have some experience under their belts and can win the must win games.

As a former "Detroiter", it's good news. It even made the local TV news here with film of the team return to DTW. Until this story, local residents south of the Smith and Wesson Line would think that the only team Detroit had was the Red Wings (now an arch-rival of the Predators).

I saw two pennants during my former northern residency, albeit one whilst overseas, and I'll hope for a good run this year too. Regards...jack
