That's a terrible tragedy. Maybe someone can get a link to it. Prayers with them all.

The only link I could find is on the agency web-site www. worldwildlife.org. This site reports; Seven WWF staff from its offices in Nepal, the UK and the US were on board, as well as high-ranking government officials, representatives of other agencies, journalists and Russian crew members.

Ah, that sounds more likely. I was wondering how-come there were only WWF people onboard, and no pilots or anything.

Thanks for the additional info.

Gee, the WWF travelling with a bunch of politicians and press in tow on a chartered helicopter producing massive amounts of greenhouse gasses.

Seems to me it was a bad decision making on the part of the crew. Flying into some extremely bad weather -- the very weather that kept the professional chopper rescuers at bay for days after the crash -- was the key mistake that cost 24 lives.

A word in the ears of some of our American friends: if you're unsure what a particular acronym such as WWF means, test it on Google.

"The helicopter was returning from an inauguration ceremony which saw the Nepalese government turn over the conservation of the wildlife and habitats surrounding Kangchenjunga - the world's third-highest mountain - to a coalition of local communities.

The Kangchenjunga Conservation Area is known for its rich biodiversity, spectacular scenery and vibrant cultural heritage. Launched in 1998, it is designed to conserve globally threatened wildlife species such as the snow leopard and red panda while supporting the local communities through health services, informal education and income-generating activities. "

We are well aware of the WWF. Those making wrestling references are refering to the lawsuit by the WWF to force the World Wrestling Federation to change it's name. The others are refering to the WWF's elitist agenda to force others into a luddite existance.

May I ask where's the "luddite" part in the event leading to the incident and some mockery here?

"Washington - Nepal's Government today turned over conservation of the wildlife and habitats surrounding Kanchenjunga -- the world's third highest mountain -- to a coalition of local communities. World Wildlife Fund was instrumental in the decision and will work on its implementation for the next five years.

"I am very happy to be part of this significant day when the people of Kangchenjunga take on the responsibility of managing this conservation area," said Minister Rai while addressing the community members gathered on the occasion. "I am convinced that the local communities will show even greater commitment to saving the unique natural and cultural heritage of Kangchenjunga."

Directly from your quote that followed, This is a part of WWF's and other eco-nazi's regular tactics.

Take an area that is undeveloped and prevent the peoples of the area from developing it and becoming economically independent. Instead the WWF bribes and lobbies politicians into declaring the area as some sort of protected area, and force the indiginous population into becoming wards of the state.

They want to force the indiginous population to remain in a primitive economic lifestyle (in this instance, the locals will "take care of the new conservation area" meaning live in the woods and have no opportunity to develop their lands) while the WWF and political leaders fly off in their helicopter to their waiting Jeeps, and then fly back to "civilization" living fat off the donations of the well intentioned.

These elitists won't actually live like they suggest that the local do because they are more smarter and important!

Would you want to live there then? What type of industry would you recommend for that remote Nepalese region? Sounds like you support some Deep Green ideology and living in austerity, but I suspect in reality you do not.

I started watching it around 1999, and I don't care what it's called.  Wink

Does 7 years qualify as old school?
