Pervez Musharraf On "The Daily Show"

Tue Sep 26, 2006 12:38 pm

FYI,

I thought some people might be interested, the president of Pakistan will be a guest tomorrow night (9/26/06) on "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart.

If Musharraf had any guts, he'd do "The Colbert Report". Big grin

Someone is getting desperate; appearing on the "The Daily Show"in an official manner should be below the Office of the President of any country.

WHAT!!!
He not only seem to be aware of the trends but seem to have a great taste. I hope Jon donesn't cut him any slack and ask him things that really matter. Not only the Bin Laden deal (I am through with the mainstream media) stuff etc.

Well that would still make him an exception because he holds the rank of Chief of Staff as well as many other ranks. Big grin

Anyway just thought about his book he was so anxious about, guess he'll be plugging that. And besides, being a Pakistani myself, I'd rather have him put to fire by Jon than to have CNN or any other sh#tty news channel 'interview' him. I am looking forward to it.

Some impressive guests for Mr. Stewart lately. President Clinton and now Pervez Musharraf.

Yeah, for a 'Fake News Show', The Daily Report has become quite significant.

Have you seen an appearance of Tom Brokaw on his shoe when he was plugging a book? Jon Stewart was so brutal on him and the entire U.S. media that the old man almost started crying - he fought he was just going to sell some books and left there cowering. Jon Stewart can get brutal when situations require.
Read this very carefully, I shall write this only once!

Stewart held his own pretty well, too, when he appeared on "The Factor". He's no slouch. He is one of the most intelligent television personalities in the business today.

I've started reading the book, and it is fascinating. The man really adores himself!

'Gups' (Exaggerations) notwithstanding, it kept me up last night, and I look forward to reading more when I get home tonight. the book is a must read for anyone from the Subcontinent.

While M should be proud of his country, he does make statements like "The Pakistan Military Academy is the best in the world" and " Pak Commandos are the best in the world".

This book would make a great movie, the description of the assassination attempts are quite graphic. It would be a cross between 'Lawrence of Arabia' and 'Rambo'.

I'll probably read it when I am done with the 100s of book on my 'To Read' list. In the meantime, I am sure the newspapers and interviews will highlight the important revelations. As for the history of the SSG (Pakistan's Special Forces or Commandos etc from which Musharraf himself comes from), I am sure there are more comprehensive books available.
Can you just name some important incidents that are really revealing??

Quoting Comorin (Reply 10):

Hahaha
I wonder what made you say that. Does he praise himself? About the Military Academy and the SSG, I am sure it is very well regarded all over the world and no doubt Musharraf will regard it the best in the world. Besides he is the leader of it and the Military he heads has a rival far superior in number so the moment he believes something should change to make it even better (especially talking about the training etc), it will be implemented immediately.

Quoting Comorin (Reply 10):

Are you talking about the attempts on his life? I thought no one was hurt or got killed in them. Or maybe during one of the attempts some security personal were killed or injured. Can't recall now.

Hi Bravo45, I'll post a few tomorrow from the first part of the book! It's #6 on the bestseller lists today, btw.

The first part of the book deals with his family moving from Delhi to Karachi, growing up in Karachi and Turkey (7 years), and how he was always the tough guy 'Dada' in youth gangs.

The escapes from Certain Death - the two assasination attempts (on the bridge, and the suicide bomber in the van), missing two flights that eventually crashed, and falling on his head from a Mango tree were described in detail.

More tomorrow...

Stewart made a joke on last night's program, saying, "Yeah, I don't know why either" or something like that.

I was wondering that myself. Frickin' Time Warner and their POS service. All my cable channels went out a half hour before The Daily Show started. Any reviews?

Just found this on one of our local websites:

http://cbs2.com/topstories/topstories_story_270003641.html

Jon Stewart welcomed Pakistan's president to "The Daily Show" on Tuesday with tea and a Twinkie. President Gen. Pervez Musharraf's tete-a-tete with Stewart on the Comedy Central program was even more unlikely than the much-anticipated meeting between Musharraf, Afghan President Hamid Karzai and President Bush, planned for Wednesday.

As a gesture mirroring Pakistani hospitality, Stewart welcomed Musharraf with a cup of jasmine green tea, and offered the more American delicacy of a Twinkie. Musharraf chuckled and thanked the host, though Stewart promptly changed the subject.

"Where's Osama bin Laden?" he asked suddenly.

I thought it was an excellent interview. Did anyone else notice the 'bomb blanket' type of barrier that surrounded the desk where Musharraf and Stewart were seated? It was removed when Musharraf left the stage.
