Need Help With Something...

Fri Sep 29, 2006 1:22 am

Ok, here's the deal, just recently I've been hearing morse code-like beeps through my computer speakers, TV and in my car. When I'm at the computer, the screen starts to flicker with horizontal lines and then the beeping begins. No visual distortion on the TV and no "warning" through the car radio. The sound is something like this: "dit, dit dit dit, dit dit dit, dit dit dit" then it stops. Reoccurs every few hours or so. Anyone have any ideas?
 confused

Thanks!
Richard

Probably that woodpecker that lives inside your brain.

Seriously, it happens out and in the house on different equipment?

I like MattD's suggestion the best, but yeah it's probably your mobile...

Any ideas in minimizing or eliminating the problem? Getting rid of the cell phone is not an option, btw.

Thanks!

Yes. Is your phone on your person when you hear all these things? If so, there is your answer.

Just don't keep it too close to any speakers.

My friend had an issue like this, his speakers would start making the noise about 5 seconds before his cell phone started ringing. That would be my best guess.

yes  I used to keep my cell phone over the CPU so that it would be handy, and the screen was flickering constantly. When I figured out it was the phone, I moved it to another location and that was the end of it.

Alternatively, you could try this:

Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

My cell phone does this too. Any idea what causes it? Im guessing some sort of interfering, but a more in depth reason?

You'll find out that this is caused by the GSM network, I don't know why only GSM phones only do this, but it seems it's the way they transmit data.

Yes, it does happen with all does. For example on TV, when your cell phone is REALLY close and about to ring, if your TV's CRT (in my case) is not prepared against that kind of interference, will disrupt your image and sound.

No one said getting rid of it, just put it at a further distance from the computer than what it usually is. You'll see that this will stop.
