Irwin Memorial, Now For Sale On DVD.

Sat Sep 30, 2006 12:12 am

I can't help but feel someone are trying to make a profit of this guys death...

A DVD with the memorial for Steve Irwin is set to be released soon. The disc will include tributes from celebrities as well as the speech by his daughter.

Pretty cheesy to me. Like you said, reeks of trying to make money off his death.

Someone is always trying to make money when people are vulnerable. Think 9/11, people were all over that. People are sick. I'm just surprised it took this long to get something together.

Thanks for pointing that out, this thread is bound to get at least 100 posts now...  Smile

I really hope that no one will buy that DVD if the people behind it are earning money. It would be okay if the money went to the Zoo or Steve Irwin's family though.

If the money is going to the zoo/conservation, great. Elsewise I'll download it for free.

Actually I believe that is meant to be the case. But it remains to see what percentage of the income they get.

If such a DVD is produced and distributed, then all of it's charges, including dealer profits above reasonable printing and distribution costs should be a donation to a memorial fund in support of Mr. Irwin's conservation foundations. That could raise millions in funds for his animal causes and would be a great legacy to him.

Well if its going to that cause, then fine by me. It initially sounded as someone was just banking off of Steve's death

On a related note I read that Russel Crowe has refused to play the role of Irwin in a documentary/film based on the croc hunters life. Crowe said he didn't want to benefit of Irwins death in any way.

Finally Crowe says something wise...

MAYBE.. Once again, this comes down to where the money is going. If Crowe were to whip out his wallet to pay production costs, and take no pay himself, the waiving of profits by Crowe and others could prove a boon to Irwin's wildlife fun. Yeap, Crowe working to MAKE money on the deal would be shameful and thank god he won't do THAT, but I think he ought to re-think the idea of playing Irwin and make it profitable for Irwin's causes. I know I'd pay a LOT more money to see Crowe playing Irwin then some sheep shaging nobody who looks like SteveO.

If he was to do this the way you mention, speaking hypothetically, would you picture him doing this movie as a sort of biography of Steve Irwin? I certainly would see that being the case if it was to happen.

I never knew Gkirk looks like Steve-O. That's news to me.  duck

'as a sort of biography of Steve Irwin?' absolutely!! Right down to the "Crikey Mate!!!"

Grow up. This thread isn't about that and why you have to degrade the context of the thread by bringing this up just shows your insecurities.

Very well, but I believe he is older than what his profile states.

Someone who is A) not much older and B) not a parent either from what I can tell..

However I never stated that I was in a position to comment.

Such a big threat from such an apparently small person.

I am sorry TedTAce but I was not threatening the user at all. I was simply stating not to do it again because it angers me every time we have to go back to the same arguments again and again. The whole Steve Irwin death is a very emotional point for many Australians and you must understand that. The orginal conversation was one I don't want brought up again.

Apologies for any misunderstanding but you have triggered emotions in me that I do not wish to have to go through again.

Now take it from me, don't ever try to go off topic with a personal attack on someone like that again.

Looks like a threat to me. You sure are bold for cyberspace. Good thing it is a 24 hour trip for you to get to me otherwise I might be scared.  sarcastic

Look I am sorry you took it as a threat, but it wasn't. A threat would have consisted of me stating something like "don't do it or else ..."

What exactly about me saying that I don't like the direction of this thread do you guys not understand. I am finding it offensive and obviously I am very aggitated. Are you both waving red flags in front of me just for fun? Because if so, I am telling you that making fun of the death of Steve Irwin merely to get a rise out of me is sick, and I hope you are both ashamed.

Your words didn't require an "or else" to it to be taken as a threat. It is what it is and I really don't care one way or the other. Just try not to be so bold online if you aren't going to back it up in the real world. Please read on though.

No, but continue to read on.

Nobody is making fun of Steve's death in this thread. I was referencing whatshisname's ridiculous comments in another thread about how Bindi is being sexualized, abused, and being used for money. Other folks were referencing what seems to be the possibility of trying to make money off of his death through this DVD.

Not sure how those offend and agitate you but to each his own. Perhaps you should re-read this thread for what it's worth.

Being offensive would have been making jokes about stingrays, crikey!, crocs, and who knows what else. I spent the two weeks after his death in Oz and I heard plenty of your fellow countrymen making some pretty bad jokes about his death. Spend some time going after them versus us saying that making money off of his death is pretty low unless it goes towards animal protection and continuing his zoo up in Beerwah.

And I don't want to take anything away from that; but the butt head in the other thread accomplished exactly that. While it may not have been 'kosher' for DG to re-introduce that into this thread, the fact you blindly took his flame bait and made what was very easily interpreted as a threat didn't do well for your cause.

Apologies all around, and first beer's on me ok?
