PhotoShop Experts: Got A Project For You

Wed Oct 11, 2006 10:51 am

This is just to satisfy a "what if" curiosity I have. And I know some of you are pretty talented at modifying pictures. So here''s what I want.

I want to take this train.....

http://x-2000r.angelcities.com/images/trainstuff/LincolnApp1.JPG

And show it running on THIS track:

http://x-2000r.angelcities.com/images/trainstuff/LookingEastPM.JPG

The scale of the train will have to be significantly reduced to make it look believable I'm sure.

Now, I want the same thing done with these pictures:

Show THIS train:

http://x-2000r.angelcities.com/images/trainstuff/PalmMetroEng2.JPG

Rolling on THIS track:

http://x-2000r.angelcities.com/images/trainstuff/PICT0127.JPG

Thanks a bunch.

The main problem you face here is the different angles of the tracks. It's one thing to trace the train, cut it out, and transplant it, but getting it to appear at the same angle at which the tracks approach the camera in the second shots is not possible unless you do some CGI.

I figured that might be a problem with the first set. But as far as I can tell, the track angle on the second set is close to identical. Or at least close enough to make the modified image believable.

Did what I could...But when you rotate the train to match, it shows a pretty good lean...

Hmm, if I can figure out how to "yaw" the train in the second pic instead of rotating it, I just might be able to alleviate that lean...

Photoshop allows to transform the perspective of a selected layer. Problem is that only some front parts of the train need additional transformation. Plus, the shadow is not perfect, the window frames need to be re-alligned, and I forgot to enhance the colours of the background image.

Ok, I improved mine (reply #4) a bit. Empty the browser cache and reload if it doesn't show up. Actually, the shadow is worse now, but overall it's a tad better.

Don't be daft, that was a big improvement. Now that the headlights are straight on, it looks quite realistic. As close to perfect as anyone could get.  bigthumbsup

NoUFO, how the hell did you get the F59PHI angled? I can see a little distortion, but that's bloody brilliant!

EDIT: Didn't see the above post....  rotfl

I simply used the 3D transformation filter Photoshop comes with.

Oops! that was yours, my mistake. May I belatedly cite your picture or should I remove it?

Matt D, did I inspire you with my Pendolino edit the other day?

As for Agill, that's the funniest thing I've seen all day. I like you sense of humour!
