Utube Up For Sale!

Sat Oct 14, 2006 9:19 pm

Saturday morning Big grin Big grin

It looks like www.utube.com is still for sale. And that's not a typo. We're not talking about YouTube, the video sharing site that Google purchased this week for $2.2 billion.

The other 'Tube belongs to Universal Tube and Rollerform Equipment Corp. And an owner of the Ohio-based tubing recycling company said the extra traffic from misdirected video searchers is slowing his site down. "It's a huge problem," Ralph Girkins said yesterday. "The guy who hosts my website can't handle [it]."
He said an offer made on behalf of YouTube for $1.3 million was "just too low". He said he's hoping for at least $3.4 million. And it's all for a name he probably bought for less than $200.

Well, in this case it makes sense. People can easily be stupid enough to type in "utube" instead of "youtube", so of course his site will get slower and bandwidth costs will go up..

1.3 mil.. not too shabby :P

Just yesterday I heard this guy on a radio news report saying how there is NO way they could sell their site.. they have some big show coming up and all the literature and documentation have already been printed up and they need the site to be up and working to make it all happen for their clients.

Now I hear he wants $3.4 million.

It all makes sense now!

I'd hold out for the $3.4 million.. that compared to the 1.2 billion the company was "worth" should be a drop in the bucket to them.

I just hope for his luck, that YOUtube doesn't get smart and just agree to pay for his bandwidth problems themselves, thus rendering his "must have"/customers cant get here claim useless.

I'd gladly have that problem, seeing as the domain name is worth ALOT of money.

It costs something like $9 to register a domain name and like this guy you can end up getting millions for it. It's pretty crazy  Smile
