Oh just because a few of the more notorious members have had a few usernames in their time and I thought you might be one.

I have been on A.net since 1999. I just never found a reason to register. I have always searched the pictures. I have only recently been interested in the forums.

But no, A.net was not the best investment I have ever made. Started my kid playing hockey was by far the best.

I enjoy it, but get a little tired of the 13-20 yr olds that think they know everything there is about commercial aviation because they can fly a plane on MS Flight Sim and have a subscription to Airliners.

I think it was. I've been reading the forums and looking at the pictures since 1999. I never bothered to register at that time since I was only 12 years old, but I took the initiative this past July and finally joined. I love the Tech/Ops forum: I post there regularly.

Cheers,
Kyle

Anet - too expensive for my liking.
Used to be first class, no ads and enjoyed that. CHanged (again paid) for premium membership and there are just the same amount of irritating adverts all over the place as if I wasn't registered. I will upgrade to first class again. *Sigh*

Best investment I've made in recent times is my PowerBook G4  Silly
Thanks

My knowledge has always been limited, and remains so. I know bugger all about bugger all.

As for an investment, its just paid for itself through my first ever photo sale today. Go me. Woo bloomin hoo

One of the various definitions of "investment":

Money spent now in order to make the economy grow and
have more money (or goods and services) later.

I did my part (until the first "and") and now I'm waiting for the "later" ...
But anyway a great site though!! Thanx Johan!

What did you flog Colin? Anything worth sharing? Big grin

My best investment? My Nikon equipment. All I have to do now is learn how to use it! Big grin

Don't turn this into a youth bashing thread theres plenty of 20-30yr olds that act like 20-30 months. Other users probably get tired of people mentioning something that has nothing to do with the original post.

Best investment, hmm...
3-week vacation in the US, a nice PC that's been running more or less problem-free for almost 7 years now, a set of winter tires for the car...

No, I'd say I've made better investments than a.net.

I got in for $25 lifetime premium membership. I had been looking on the site for a number of months before I joined, and wanted to get in on the conversations. I have had (too) many hours of entertainment, conversation (some of it even with intellegence) on a-net and consider it a great value for less than a tank of gas.

C'mon now...you have to admit that the occassional threads where they spout off about why it makes sense for a dozen different international carriers to start service to their home airport are pretty entertaining.

As for me, a.net serves as a daily reminder that yes, I am in fact a dork.

I would say A.net was quite a good investment for me, I paid about £14 before recently going First Class, and since then I've attended so many meets where you see and learn so much, as well as meet great like minded people. From flying on an Iran Air 741, to taking a tour of ZRH airport and walking under the runways, its very good fun and has been worth the money!

I was about to say 'but such and such was a better investment', but to be honest I can't think of anything else which has produced as great a return for so little initial effort, so A.net wins!  bigthumbsup

Same here. Bought a townhouse 6 years ago that has more than doubled in value.

I'd say my education was my best investment. But I do feel that a.net was a great investment for $25 just because of all the great people I have met who share an interest in aviation.

My best investment besides my house (more than double but its only paper money until its sold) was the shares of Scottsdale based Taser International stock purchased for $1/share in 2001 sold later for over $100/share. Purchased it on a whim after reading a story in the paper, then 9/11 and the rest is history. Its now selling for 9.50.
