Audi A6 2.7 TDI

Tue Oct 24, 2006 10:29 pm

I'm very excited to get my new car on Friday morning  Wink I bought an A6 2.7 TDI with full opitions and I will get it by the end of the week! On the other hand Im still a bit worried cos I was hesitating between the 3.0 liter of 2.7 but I choosed the 2.7 thinking that this must be sufficient regarding power & economie! What do you think, did I make the right choice or should I have invested some more Euros and go with the 3.0 TDI or should I maybe consider one day a chiptuning? What do you think about the A6 in general compared to BMW 5 or Mercedes E class? Every comments are very welcome  Smile

I wouldn't be too worried about lack of power vs the 3.0.
It'll turnout to be an as effective driver license shredder.
Also it'll probably be a tad more economic (I think).

Well, it's certainly a darn good-looking car (but then, I've liked Audi styling for decades). I'm thinking that you'll appreciate the overall performance with the 2.7 too; so I say "good choice!" for this class vehicle. Regards...jack

Cptkrell, thats what the dealer told me that the overall performance isnt too bad compared against the 3.0 TDI! For sure the last one will be faster but in daily use I dont think that the difference will be that significant!
Hey L410Turbolet, why not? Is it that bad for the engine?

You should have test driven both before making your decision. Only you will know whether 2,7liter diesel is sufficient as you are the one who will be driving the car  Smile

AirPacific747, thx much  Smile Ha, the best thing is that I will pick it up in Germany that makes it even more exciting but I think that I need to train my selfcontrol that day cos I dont wanna go up to speeds above 140 or 150 km/h the first day with a brandnew car on the autobahn  Smile

Haha I understand why Big grin

My father is getting the Q7 mid November, but we were told that it was built last week so it is standing somewhere down in Germany and is waiting to be shipped to Denmark where it will be refitted first before we get it  Smile

I'm very excited about that as well!

Hey L410Turbolet, why not? Is it that bad for the engine?

It cuts down the engine's useful life.
If you look on the classic VW 1.9 TDI engine, you can get it in 66kW, 74kW, 81kW, 96kW versions. The difference in 66kW and 96kW is not just different chip but also completely different turbo, air inlet, and other components. I'd simply have more faith in Audi with all their technology and resources they have to design the engine than someone with just "hammer and screwdriver" doing some magic with my engine (this is of course not the case if you are thinking about having some manufacturer-certified tuning from company like ABT, which specializes in Audis). But then with ABT you are likely to fork out more money than what is the difference between the two engines in question.
How much is the difference in price of the 2.7 TDI (with solid particle filter?) and the 3.0 TDI quattro wherever you are buying it? Over here it's approx. 5,700 EUR. Is it worth the money?  Confused
The only reason I'd think about the 3.0 would be because it's quattro and the price difference between 2.7 quattro and 3.0 quattro is minimal (40EUR to be exact).
In either case I'd take the version with solid particle filter.
If you want more expert opinion on chiptuning I'm sure there are plenty of Audi-fan websites where you will get more info and insight. I was just offering my opinion.
In any case I think you chose a great car and I hope you'll enjoy it.

L410Turbolet, the new models from now on (at least in Germany) are all delivered with the solid particle filter! U cant get it without overhere (thats what my dealer told me) Ur right the price difference isnt that big and anyway what makes the car expensive are the options! Damn, in those Audi's you have to pay for everything! The way I wanted the car I had to add around 16-17000 euros more and thats completely crazy but that was also one of the reason why I finaly choosed the 2.7 well at a certain moments u have to do some sacrifice. I wanted nice 18 inch wheel, lowered s-line chassis, xenon plus lights, leather and navigation with dvd and so on so I decided to go with the less powerfull engine and invest the difference in options I realy want to have.

Well, a friend of mine bought the new Passat 2.0 TDI (140 PS) and he did the tuning at our local Audi dealer and the cost where around +/- 700,- Euros and now his car has about180 horsepower with a guarantee from the Audi dealer so that was the reason I was thinkin that maybe in the near future I will go for it! They told me that the power will go up from 180 hp to 230 hp and that for a price of 700 and all build in at Audi! I think thats much less than the difference in list price between both cars! But as u said Im a bit worried that the lifespan of the engine could be reduced but I will try to find more info on that!
Anyway, I think that I will have gud fun with that car! I just luv the way it looks but again thats very personal!
AirPacific747, my congrats to you too and ps dont forget to tell me how it drives  Wink

Ur right, it isnt a sportscar but that I knew before buying it! If I wanted to go for performance at first place than I would have choosen the 4.2 ltr V8 engine but its all a question of money and economics! But dont tell me that it is a fuel waster cos that I wouldnt believe you!

Congrats, you bought a very, very nice car! I drove exactly the same car for a few times already and it was always a pleasure!

My family has become an "Audi Fan Club" lately, my father (A8), his company car fleet (A6 and A4 station waggon), my cousin (A3), her husband (A4 convertible), and my grandfather (A4) are driving an Audi at the moment and they are more than pleased. I am waiting for my new car currently, also an Audi (A4 convertible). Big grin

I like to drive all of the aforementioned cars of my family, Audi is building very nice cars and they have a way better customer servive than this Mercedes shit or BMW (which are on the same level than Audi).

Underpowered? You can't be serious, my father's company has the very same car (A6, 2.7 TDI, 180 hp, multitronic gear) and I am driving it frequently. I really like it and it is no way underpowered IMO.

Maybe I'm a little unfair to the Audi. I find it under powered compared to the vehicle I drive when not in an Audi

yes, not everyone can afford a Volkswagen.

@Luxair - congratulations, my leasing contract on my present A6 runs out in March. 220 km/h + for a Diesel is good enough, no need to go for the 3.0 ltr. One can hardly drive that speed anyhow these days.

We just picked up a Shadow blue Volkswagen Golf 1.9 TDI MKV 5-door. I would have preferred the 2.0 but its got lowered suspension which is a nightmare on our roads. Its great though, replaced a rickety old fiesta.

As for the A6, its the one car that I can see myself driving ten-fifteen years from now in ice blue with the 3.0 TDI S-line trim. Maybe in avant form. 2.7 is nice as well though

Marc, congratulations, great car! I love Audi interiors, especially the A6's ... as for being underpowered, as others said, it has a very decent performance - for sure it isn't a sports car, but if you wanted a sports car, you would have picked an RS6  Silly (OK, that's my dream which won't turn into reality anytime soon).

Luxair, I hope that your dealer back up and build quality is (far) better than what we get here in the UK. I've had my 3.0TDi 7 months and it's spent 80% of that time in the garage with faults that they can't find what's causing them. I've been recovered from the motorway network 3 times. I've had lengthy discussions and later slanging matches with them about the car and me wanting my money back but I'm getting nowhere. I've been given a base model A3 to drive around in and it's just not acceptable when you've just spent mega money on a new motor. At the moment a case is prepared to sue them for failing to provide goods fit for their purpose. I would strongly recommend to anyone thinking of purchasing a new Audi to NOT BOTHER (in the UK, at least).

Furthermore, whilst speaking to my bro about all this only a few days ago, one of his mates bought a top of the range S3 Quattro a few months ago and that's also sat in the garage with faults that can't be found.

I won't bore you with the rest of the details and story anyway.

You have been warned chaps!!

RobK, OMG that sounds a nightmare but out of experience those things can happen with any car any brand! My friend has a brand new Mercedes S500 and the car was from day one until now in the garage cos of many electronical problems they could never find the real reason for all the problems! Weird realy weird but since I remember they always existed those monday morning build cars!

Well lets talk about mine, I picked it up on friday morning and drove from Fulda to The Hague in the netherlands and its about 520 km and waohhh I have to say that it drives incredibly smooth! You can barely hear the engine! Cos of the sportsuspensions its like if the car is pasted on the road but still comfortable! Enough power in every situation (my own opinion) To resume it drives as I would expect from a car like that! I realize that I just bought my dream car  Wink
Ohhh, I wanna add that I drove around 1000 km with 70 liter of Diesel that I think is not bad when considering that I drove on the Autobahn between the 140 and 180 km/h!
Wanna add also that the leather interior in cognac color is of a high quality (again based on my own opinion)
Thanks for all your replies my friends!
Greetings
Marc

There barely is an engine. On a more positive note for you, my John Deere lawnmower only has a 26hp V2 engine and is significantly louder.

Sounds like a Polish made engine. I went to the factory in Polkowice (Where they make the 1.9TDI) and it was quite interesting and fascinating how they are being made. I actually really enjoyed that little field trip.

Since 02-2005 I drive a Audi A3 Sportback 1.9TDI. I am more than satisfied. Of course, I rather have the 2.0TDI, but I ran out of Euros....The 1.9TDI is good enough here in The Netherlands....usually we cannot go faster than 80km/h in the The Hague/Rotterdam/Amsterdam region where I live.

Up to now I drove 45.000km without any problems. Before this car I had a Peugeot 205, a Renault Clio (terrible!) and 3 different VW Golf. My dad has a BMW525i, 4years old, 110.000km, great car, but many visits to the garage. Although all the problems are solved very well everytime at the BMW garage, I will choose to spend my money on Audi and not BMW.

I'm looking forward to the introduction of the Audi A5.  Cool

Audi ist Freunde am fahren! (yes, I know, this slogan belongs to the Bavarians)
