Fiat Will Change Its Logo. Again...

Thu Oct 26, 2006 6:02 pm

Italian carmaker FIAT seems to struggle with the same problem as Delta, that is choosing a logo they would be finally happy with. They've decide to change/modify their logo once again. First car with the new logo will be introduced on the Geneva Car Show next spring:

Current logo:

What about their slogan?

Will it still be "Fix It Again Tony"? ??

The new Grade Punto is supposed to be selling really well, virtually saving the company from going belly up.
My brother's gf just bought one (1.4, 3-door) few weeks ago so I'm curious how she'll like it.
I've driven the 1.2, 5-door version (rental car) during my recent business trip to the UK and was surprised how good the gas mileage was (380 miles, average gas mileage was 52.2. Too good to be true, imho.

BTW, this is Fiat Bravo (new Stilo), first car with the new logo:

They're actually quite healthy. The group posted a nice result on 2005 and 2006 forecasts are even better.

Quote:
The surge in sales volumes was cited by Fiat as a particular growth driver for its core automotive operations. Fiat Auto, which comprises the core Fiat badge as well as Alfa Romeo and Lancia, registered a 23.7% y/y increase in quarterly revenues to 5.7 billion euro. Volume growth allowed Fiat Auto to swing from a 129 million euro loss in the first quarter of 2005 to a 57 million euro trading profit. In addition to higher volumes, Fiat attributed the 186 million euro increase to an improved product mix and containment of governance costs.

Fiat Auto deliveries increased by 15.8% y/y to 485,000 units thanks to strong model launches and the Grande Punto in particular. Vehicle deliveries in Italy increased by 20.7%, boosting Fiat's market share to 30.7%. The 16.8% increase in deliveries elsewhere in Western Europe boosted Fiat's market share in this region by one percentage point to 8%. Its Brazilian market share remained unchanged at around 23.8%, while positive developments were reported in Poland, where Fiat managed to retain its 11% market share despite an overall market decline.

Mixed fortunes were reported by Fiat's two upmarket sports-car brands, Ferrari and Maserati. While Ferrari registered a 27.3% y/y increase in quarterly revenues to 317 million euro, Maserati saw its first-quarter revenues stall. The 6.2% drop in revenues to 121 million euro came as strong Quattroporte sales were unable to offset lower demand for the Coupé and Spider. As a result, Maserati booked a trading loss of 19 million euro, while Ferrari swung from an 8 million euro trading loss in the first quarter of 2005 to an 11 million euro profit.

All the sthle changes, and all the logo modifications, are not going to change the basic fact: FIAT sucks.

I love the design of their cars, and I liked the old badge, however this new one sucks! It looks cheap and tacky, the red does nothing for me and this would actually put me off buying one of their cars now.

Hmm..the new Punto looks very nice...and drives well too. In fact Fiat seem to be doing pretty well in Australia since they first launched the Punto here in July. There are plenty of Puntos on the roads here in ADL.

At least the current logo is based on one of FIAT's old logos. The new one gives me the impression of FIAT having a bit of an identity crisis.

I have to admit though, that FIAT Bravo in the pictures looks very sleek. I hope it drives as well as it looks.  Wink

If you buy a car by what the logo looks like, i'm sure Fiat dont want your business...

They're not all that bad, i've got a friend who drove his Cinquachento into the ground over 100,000 miles posted. I'd certainly drive one. With proper maintenance, a fiat is actually pretty reliable...

Even the new logo is basically "revisiting" some of the concepts/colors of Fiat's logos 1930s - 1960s. But why fix something what's not exactly broken and waste huge amounts of EUR on rebranding?

My thoughts exactly. The current "retro" logo lasted over 6 years, though I've seen new cars with both the blue logo and the current retro one, though personally I always prefered the blue logo because it's simple yet modern and timeless. It's either an identity crisis as I said or maybe, judging from the picture, simply "tradition".

I love how the current one is pretty much the original again, yet they had that god awful square F I A T one for ages when they could have kept it retro.

Thanks
