And The Most Beautiful Place On Earth Is...

Sat Oct 28, 2006 1:14 am

...here, according to National Geographic.

Geirangerfjorden, Norway.

Not everyone would agree, but I must say it is one of the most scenic places I've ever seen.

Wonder if people actually live in the shacks in the second photo. What an incredible place to live that would be....

And those look like full-size cruise ships in the first photo. Which means that that fjord is much larger than I thought upon first glance.

Pretty unbelievable...

I think Trinidad should rank up there somewhere.
And the southern part of Germany
and the Pacific northwest of the US.

I would love to do three things there:
1) Take a nice and slow helocopter tour
2) Take a boat tour
3) Fly an F-16 with the throttle to the firewall @ no more then 100m.

Yep - it's actually even more vivid blue than this picture indicates. I can only describe it as "electric blue" - like someone plugged the whole lake into a 240 volt outlet. Stunningly, amazingly beautiful.

I have a few votes...  Smile

In all it's rugged industrual beauty, my home of NYC can be stunning at times, when the light falls on the right places at the right times...

Japan, during the Sakura-matsuri...

And of course, the Monte Verde Cloud Forest in Costa Rica. Gorgeous.

Some of the pictures above are stunning. Must travel more, that's for certain  Smile

I'm still partial to some places in Alaska of course. The fjords on Norway remind me of the fjords in Southeastern Alaska.

The good thing, just about anywhere one travels on this planet, there's beauty and solitude . . .

Some can only be seen from the air . . . as here where two glaciers join in the Wrangell/St. Elias Mountains . . . .

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y60/csmpep/Glaciers2Sept06.jpg

Or here, from a ship where the Gulf of Alaska and Resurrection Sound meet surrounded by mountains . . .

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y60/csmpep/P8080012.jpg

There is certainly beauty everywhere . . . .

Some of my favourite places (aside from those already listed by others):

-Kornati islands, Croatia

http://www.navalija-kompas.hr/baze/album/albums/userpics/kornati.jpg

-Pretty much anywhere in Iceland (I couldn't choose only one location so here they are all in one shot  Wink )

-New Zealand is stunning too, and like Iceland it is difficult to pick just one spot. The Bay of Islands is fairly spectacular:

I love places that show off nature's power....Iguassu is just wonderful in this regard.

Alaska, Kenai Fjord.

Peru, Machu Picchu and Manu/Tambopata upstream from Puerto Maldonado. I love the remoteness of the Jungle, and the jawdropping engineering of my favourite civilisation.
