Suits In Hong Kong?

Tue Oct 31, 2006 9:14 am

Has anyone ever purchased a tailored suit in Hong Kong? What were your experiences of the process and would you reccomend it?

Thanks!

I had 5 suits made in HK while I was working out there. Very good quality very good price. I don't remember the tailor, if I remember I'll look in the suit jacket when I get home tonight, but it was literally a whole in the wall that a couple of HK based co-workers recommended.

I think the deposit was only like 10% so there really is very little risk of being taken. My recommendation are: ask around and find someone who isn't fly by night; don't judge the book by its cover (the store front will not be what you expect); depending on how many days you have, you might want to go get your first fitting on the first day you are there; and, enjoy the experience, you'll get a great suit for a fraction of what you would pay elsewhere.

On more think - get a bunch of custom made dress shirts while you're at it.

Highly recommended. It's generally cheaper than off the rack, and of course tailored fits properly. Like anything, you get what you pay for though. The dodgy Indian blokes hanging around Tsim Sha Tsui pier are not the way to go.

You'll get an excellent suit for around HK$4000, a pretty good one for $HK3000, and an average one for HK$1500-2000

If you're after a nice one, I recommend Linda Chow, 69 Peking Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. A little hard to find buit she's very professional and uses great materials. Make sure you've got time for three visits though, (measure, fit, final fit)

If you're ever in Shanghai, it's apparently better in terms of price. I have no contacts there though so would be a lottery for quality.

I can recommend a very good tailors in Bangkok, Thailand.

"Siam Square Collection"
Can be found in Siam Square/Soi 8  Smile

It is run by a British guy called Micky, originally from Bradford (ish).

I got 2 very good suits, with accessories from there Big grin

Yes, frequently, mainly because I go there nearly every year  Smile I strongly recommend getting suits in Hong Kong rather than in China. In China there is an edge for price but when it comes to quality you cannot trust them too much. If you are looking for more expensive suits, go to Pacific Place in Admiralty and there should be shops wiling to make suits for you. I can't remember the name, but I will post it when I do.

Go to Burlington house on Nathan Road in Kowloon - people on this site advised me to go there when I went to Hong Kong in 2005 and I did go there for suit tailoring - however I didn't end up getting anything just because I didn't really need any more than I already had.

Expensive is an understatement for Pacific Place. However, I'm sure the suits would be magnificent!
