Friday's Stupid Thread - What Orange Juice Colour

Fri Nov 10, 2006 8:19 pm

As UTA_flyinghigh is currently looking after his daughter (and unable to post stupid threads today), he has asked me to post such a thing.

So, what orange juice colour do purchase/drink (orange, red, etc...)?

Red orange juice? Surely thats not actually "Orange" juice by definition!! Big grin

Anyway, the stuff we get is usually a sort of yellowy colour.

Alas, quoting literature several millennia old appears to be outside of your compass. Perhaps in future I should confine myself to more contemporary prose in keeping with your limited intellectual outlook. I understand the vernacular "shut it, you slag" from the popular television programme EastEnders might be more in your sphere of cultural awareness.  snooty

Given your immense age, quoting anachronistic and apocryphal "literature" is not surprising, but it behoves one to move with the times, and stay abreast of current trends.

Here is a case in point. The documentary series "EastEnders" allows the keen anthropologist to study at close quarters the peculiar sub-species known as the "Cock-er-nee" in its natural habitat, surrounded by it's inherent mileu of geezers, market barrah-boyees and dodgy gear. It provides valuable insights into the current mores and habits of the great unwashed, allowing a greater understanding of such phenomena as "the owled beyuwl" and "garn ap Waest".

Indeed so. However, I fear that this particular study breaks all rules of science, by allowing interaction with the group. One can see regrettable instances of contamination, such as the occasional failure to clearly enunciate a glottal stop, or the presence of higher levels of technology such as the "kharsi", clearly out of place in such a society. One can only lament such ruinously poor practice, allowing the likes of Skidmarks to participate in totally unsuitable forms of discourse, such as this eminent forum. It will do no good you know.

Ah, JGP, I believe you should inspect this latest example carefully. Firstly, one can see the narrow horizons of the subject, failing to even comprehend that its betters might not need to work. Secondly there is the attempt to converse in a manner that those around them are accustomed to, yet one can only pity the clumsy and inadequate attempts to drop in words that they feel are suitable for a more intellectual plane, no matter how anachronistic or out of place they might be. Thirdly, one can observe the primitive attempts at verbal breast-beating. Granted, this is an improvement on the genuine article, which was recently made an offence under the obscene publications act, but I do fear that anthropology has much to answer for in its earnest but misguided desire to gain an understanding through interaction.

I must concur. Clearly this type of interactive anthropological study has corrupted this subject, causing him to question his lowly origins and current status, giving him aspirations to social civilities quite beyond his capabilities. Really, that he imagines himself worthy to consort with his infinite superiors as equals, causes one distress - the agony of his eventual disappointment will be harsh indeed. But then one comforts oneself with the thought that his cerebreal development is not sufficiently advanced for this crushing blow to cause anything but a passing malaise, after which he will return to his accustomed activities of scratching, eructating, flatulating, and causing distress to passers by with his inarticulate gruntings.

I fear you may be correct, JGP. Witness the lack of genuine understanding of this modern day hidegild for contemporary linguistics; the confusion of dictionary and thesaurus (one must admit to being moderately surprised that the subject has progressed as far as a dictionary, but even so); the conjunction of non-sequiturs in a vain attempt to correspond on the same intellectual level and not least the eventual reliance on derogatory stereotypes. One must have sympathy for the situation in which the subject finds himself, forced to revert to a rock in the Irish seas due to his terror of the catchpoule, practising his own bowssen religion free from the pressure of scientific enquiry.

This is our doing, and one upon which we should reflect.

I can hardly be held responsible for the lamentable illiteracy rampant in the lower echelons of society, as evidenced by your coarse and misspelt vitriol. Even AeroSpocrates himself would concur with this assessment, though doubtless he would cast the blame for your tragic ignorance on the Democratic Party and the demise of traditional values since the burning of heretics was discontinued in the 18th century.

Quoting CastleIsland (Reply 28):

That doesn't surprise me in the least. It would explain a great deal.

Quoting Banco (Reply 29):
(one must admit to being moderately surprised that the subject has progressed as far as a dictionary, but even so);

To use the word "progressed" implies a possibility that simply does not exist. The subject merely utilizes the tome as a wheel-chock for his wheeled perambulatory device.

Quoting Banco (Reply 29):
One must have sympathy for the situation in which the subject finds himself, forced to revert to a rock in the Irish seas due to his terror of the catchpoule, practising his own bowssen religion free from the pressure of scientific enquiry.

One struggles to generate any kind of sympathy for one whose distress, whether as a direct result of his inherently low social status or his voluntary self-exile to the howling northern ocean wastes, is entirely self-inflicted. His self-immersative quackery notwithstanding, the scientific community owes it to posterity to document in detail the disastrously derelict existence of this specimen, if only as a warning to others.
