I'm Approved For An Apartment!

Tue Nov 14, 2006 7:40 am

You'd think this was some huge life event (well, it sort of is I guess), but I have been approved for my first apartment post Katrina. There have been HUGE waiting lists at all the decent apartment complexes in the area up until recently, and the prices were running quite a bit more (in some cases double)than what they did before the hurricane....which makes business sense since the housing supply has been greatly diminished. Things have improved now to where finding a nice one bedroom for around $675/month in a good neighborhood is feasible.

Anyway, it's a nice place...not too far from MSY (maybe 4 miles), on the lake (no, the levee did not breach in that area), clean, and fairly new.

So if any of you guays are in town and need a plce to stay, shoot me an email. Lots of room for everybody.

Have a good one!

The apartment complex he'll be in is across the main access road to my subdivision.....roughly a quarter of a mile away.

So basically.....there goes the neighborhood  wink  .....

Actually, it is a huge event. Getting your first place rocks. Congrats. One word of advice...if you're going to make any improvements....new furniture (well, ANY furniture for that matter), etc...have the house warming party BEFORE making any enhancements to your new pad. Less to be trashed that way.  yes

DAMN dude, I wish I could get a one bedroom for $675/month. My brother lives about two miles from me, and he pays $1000/month for a closet, basically. Boston sucks for apartment prices.....

Anyway, congrats! As someone who just moved into an apartment two weeks ago, I can vouch for it being a big life event.

Is that a college apartment? Is it shared? How closet is it to downtown/nearby attractions? Those are the real questions.

I feel really lucky to have a 2-bedroom duplex with new appliances, paint, cupboards, etc that is only 4 blocks from downtown SLC. Runs me about $695 a month. The only time I got anywhere near $314/month was when a lived in a SHITTY apartment in a rural college town.

I just feel lucky to be where I'm at now..

Congrats on getting a feasible place in a great part of this country.

I will say this though. If you have the chance.. BUY!!!!!!!!

You love NO, and you aren't going to leave. To rent is to throw away money, unless you truly beleive you will leave in the next 3-4 years.
I understand you have the rent, but owning makes you money. Trust me, trust almost all who have owned.

Renting is good if you are moving every 1-2 years, but if you are going to stay for awhile. Buy, BUY.BUY!!!!!

Gotta love Pesos and Mexico.. Big grin

I live in the city of Aguascalientes with my two roomates and we pay 4300 pesos a month about 430US. It is a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom unfurnished house, it a very nice neighborhood. The city is pretty nice too, of all the places I have been in Mexico, Aguas is on of my favourites, it is clean, trendy enough, and developing pretty rapidly..

I'm sure it is not as bad as London, UK. My sister pays £800 (that is what, about $1600?) for a very small 1 bed.

I though rents in US was outrages. We (me and the mrs) pay 1060$ /month for our 2 bedroom apartment in Gothenburg a few minutes from city center.

Not a college apartment. Not shared, it's my bachelor pad. A little more than 500 sq ft. And there are no attractions in Tulsa, it is boring as hell here. But, I can drive anywhere I need to be, including downtown, in 20 min or less usually depending on the time of day. So I guess for me it's an alright location.

I agree with that. Although I bet housing prices have gone up down there along with apartments, 700 bucks a month is a good house payment on a decent sized place. If housing insurance and maintanance wont kill you than buy, buy, buy.

Well, no, it's not as bad. But to be fair, everything in the UK is more expensive than here  Smile

Shit dude. Actually, that reminds me of a friend's friend who goes to U of A. He and a couple others rented a house in Tucson, and each of them was paying like $250/month.

My cousin and I looked at probably 10-20 places over the last two months, so feel free to email or message me if you want any suggestions. We ended up in Somerville, in a really nice neighborhood, renting about 1/3 of a house (the owners live in the rest) for $1300/month.
