It does! Just not frequently, but once winter rolls around, SoCal in general gets plenty...

Plus I heard this might be another El Nino year, and the last time it was an El Nino year, it rained every day for a month straight in San Diego...

I moved to LA County last November 2005 and from around the end of December until April of this year there was indeed frequent rain, probably every few days & I went to my first ever Rose Parade in Pasadena (which I was assured would never see rain - hadn't for 50yrs prior) and it poured down like I'd never imagined. It was a torrential storm and it equalled any rainstorm I'd become used to in London over recent years.

But to be honest with you apart from the odd cloudy day it hasn't rained since May from my recollection. I've counted no more than 15 cloudy days since around May, but saying that yesterday was a really crappy day! It was very cold and cloudy....I'm about to head to have my lunch in the park, oh its about 20-25c and sunny outside!

:D

It does rain in Southern California, and more than it used to rain as compared to like 15 years ago.

When I first moved here in the late 80s I remember it almost never raining. Now, it rains mostly around mid-December to late May. It definitely also rains a lot more in the costal areas than inland areas.

We had a week like that in TUS in July. It was nice. Don't know how we'd react to a whole month.  boxedin

Just keep watching the weather till it does rain. It's one of the funnier sights to see every single news channel have special weather updates just to say that it's raining a bit.

There was a really funny quote I read somewhere about this...let me see if I can find it....

Eh, never mind, my 5-second search was fruitless. All I remember is the last line went something like:

"And people over in _____ report that it is raining there too! And what's more, the roads are getting wet!"

A few years ago, my uncle spent 2 weeks in LA in March, and he told me that it was always raining!!!
I am just surprised that the rain comes so late!!!

Lived in Orange County since 2002, and one of the main reasons I stick around is the weather. It rains mostly in January and February, but last year was particularly bad.

It showered a little yesterday, but that's the first rain I recall seeing since April or May. Of course, all the TV and radio stations overreacted.

Rain here usually begins in around December, and continues through April. We'll get the odd shower in November or May, but it's not too normal. If you want proof, look at how many Dodgers games have been rained out.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodger_Stadium

The ballpark has had a terrific run of luck with rain - prior to 1976, the Dodgers were rained out only once, against the St. Louis Cardinals, on April 21, 1967. That rainout ended a streak of 737 consecutive games without a postponement. The second home rainout, on April 12, 1976, ended a streak of 724 straight games. No rainouts occurred between three straight games from April 19-21, 1988, and April 11, 1999 - a major league record of 856 straight home games without a rainout.

But it is true, that when it rains here, people freak out. My friends from Dallas were here in May when we had a freak rain storm, and they could not get over all the "Storm Watch 2006" news stories, with frantic news people talking excitedly about the 1/2 inch of rain we were getting.

But when we get real weather, it can be really bad (see the Winter of 2004-2005). Lots of mudslides and flooding.

True but I read that during the 2004-2005 season when LA got hit with torrential rains, Seattle was in a drought for the first time in years.

Definitely true! It's like rain is some magic elixir that takes away Southern Californian's already crappy skills at driving...

The weather is the only reason I have stuck around. I moved to Orange County from Detroit in 2000 solely because I was tired of the Midwest winters (and the crappy roads).
I still get a chuckle over the "STORM WATCH" breaking news reports. When it does rain, it's typically the lead in story on the local news channels and they'll go "Live" to a reporter standing in - Rain! Wow, the lengths some people will go to to nail the story.
