Cleaning Ink Stains

Sun Nov 19, 2006 4:42 am

Yesterday I was attempting to replace the black ink cartridge on my printer, but the damn seal on the new cartridge wouldn't come off. I turned the cartridge upside down to break the seal, and it worked... but sure enough, some ink spilled through the upper air vent. Damn @#~$%&/!! generic cartridges...

As a result, I have a quite large black stain on my hand, and attempts to remove it have been unsuccessful. What do you suggest?

Really? I've heard Cornish patented its use as an exfoliating product, but I wasn't aware of its cleansing properties.

Get some white spirit, and wash your hands with it, then afterwards wash them again with a good soap to get rid of the leftover spirit and smell. That should shift the ink nicely, certainly did when I used black enamel as eyeliner for Halloween!

According to the HP website, they have 3 recommendations:

1. Do not use HOT water on your hands, it 'sets' the stain.

2. Use a gritty soap (such as Lava or Ajax) and scrub, scrub scrub.

3. For best results, do the above within 2 minutes of getting the stains.

from my own experience, printer ink stains are horribly difficult, if not impossible to remove. You will be stuck with it for a while, although frequent hand washing can get it out faster.

I'd stick with JGPH1A's madonna tatoo idea.

No Andy, that's still your gig. The vengeful volcano deity is not going to accept a fellow deity as sacrifice. It has to be a humble bald old bathbun, as clearly stipulated in the Eddic scriptures.

"And there shall come, bewheel-ed still
Up Hekla's fiery, vengeful slope
Bald Bjathboen, sent by Althing's will
As sacrificial misanthrope".

Can't argue with scripture !

An expert, yes. A SUCCESSFUL expert, hardly. Yes I do work with Printing Press Ink pretty much every day

Quoting Diamond (Reply 9):
2. Use a gritty soap (such as Lava or Ajax) and scrub, scrub scrub.

To be honest, the ink will probably not come out until the skin dies. My hands turn funky colors from the ink that I use, however, Lava soap is one of the 3 kinds they give us at work (yes I use all three!). However, the ink stays with me, usually this stuff will be pretty close to gone after 4 or 5 days of not working. I would give you the advice not to scrub scrub scrub but to just leave it and let the skin die on it's own, just wash them with light scrubbing once or twice a day. The more you scrub the more dry and cracked your hands become and not to mention very painful (I know this from experience too)

Just my 2 cents Big grin
