How Much For Your Car Maintenance?

Thu Nov 23, 2006 9:55 am

So I just hit 40,000 miles on my truck and decided to do all the 30,000 mile stuff as well as brakes and tires.

I went with basic on everything, nothing special.
Dodge ram Hemi:
Tires: $735
Oil, alignment, brakes, and trany flush $407.

at 60,000 I get to change my spark plugs...yippee all 16 of them  banghead

Other basics, I get about 15 mph average and must use 89 or higher. When parking in garages I get a lovely additional fee for being large.

How much does your car cost you? If less, can we trade? Just Kidding, I love her, but like a woman...she cost a perty penny or 2 or 1,200.

Our 5 series BMW has done 50,000 miles in 18 months and is working perfectly fine off just a new set of front discs and pads, a bit of new oil and 6 new tyres thus far. Then again, we aren't the perfect example of how to look after a car. Still, diesels go forever right? Right!?

I've got about 25K miles on the BAFDT. Haven't needed any heavy maintenance, but I know headlight bulbs (Sylvania Silver Star) are US$35 each. I know that the 150w Hallogens for the KC Daylighters, Sealed Beam are US$40 each. I know that an oil change with Chevron Delo 400 Synthetic (16 qts) and a Penzoil Filter is US$160. And the K&N Air Filter installed was US$98. And windshields - it's an Alaska thing - are US$495.

I haven't needed any maintenance on the engine. It's a Ford Superduty afterall  bigthumbsup . Realistically - I do not look forward to the time when that occurs.  scared

The previous owner dealt with all the high maintenance stuff if it ever had any at all
My car turns 30 years old in February and I've had it for almost four years.
No major repairs other than a radiator $120 and a water pump $79 and of course a few belts & hoses.
I have 169,000 miles on it and 30,000 of those miles I put on it.

My Aunt had a diesel Ford Focus which was on about 250,000 miles and going fine beore a lorry drove into the back of it.

Our Ford Fiesta Zetec is on about 60k, *touch wood* nothing has gone wrong; engine still works like a dream! I think its on the 3rd, possibly 4th set of tyres by now (they need doing certainly), but that's the fault of Westcountry roads, and it's also on the third exhaust, but again that's a combination of the salt on the roads and the salt in the air down here. Overall, probably spend £500 or so a year on maintaining her.

Ok, I should clarify then... The stuff I mentioned above are straight from the owners manual. at 30k do x, y, and z. Its not major but cost of these items depends on the size and type of car. I know in certain BMW's a special motor oil is needed that you cant find in a Kragen. Its some off the wall weight.
Anyways, I was curious enough to look at baseline tires for a Yaris, they are like $40. Im sure brakes are cheap as well.

My major maintenance is every 30k and I guess that will probably average out to 1.2k every 1.5 years. What does your car cost every major "annual" maintenance.

$30 every 3-4000 miles to change the oil and the car keeps goin. God I love Honda's. 91000 miles and other than oil changes I've probably spent $200 on repairs in the last 2 1/2 years.
I could use new tires before it snows and have the timing belt looked at next year. Other than that it doesnt leak a drop of any fluids, still takes my heavy foot like a champ, 30+ mpg, not bad for a 7 year old car.

Zero... my BMW 320d has a 100,000km Motorplan which covers everything except tyres. As it is now 6 months old and only 9,000km on the clock I don't anticipate spending anything on it for a long time!
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...
