I have specified cremation and my cremains are to be disposed of at Milepost No. 1 on the Tennessee Valley Railroad. It's a really nice place and one of my good friends had his cremains placed there when he passed. The only "music" that will be present is the noise of the train-preferably one of the steam locomotives.

I don't know you, and you're probably a nice guy. Even if I knew you, knew you well, perhaps even loved you, if I had any inkling that song was going to be played at your funeral, I couldn't attend. I would go to the pub instead.

Reminds me of those cheesy telecom ads in the US.

about the song , yeah I know ... I'm more into Rammstein myself but maybe that's not the best choice for a funeral.

Airplane engine noises.

Big radial engines: The rising whine of an inertia starter, the chuffing of the first few cylinders to light off, then the loping idle of a big ol' Pratt.

I tell ya, I'm getting teary-eyed just thinking about it.

Wow, now this sure is a different kind of thread...

I chose a song a while back....as soon as I heard it I knew right away it would and will be the song played when I'm gone....and because my oldest son is an amazing singer I will be sure to have him sing it.

I could't find a video link but here are the words....

Song: To Where You Are
By: Josh Groban

Who can say for certain
Maybe you’re still here
I feel you all around me
Your memories so clear

Deep in the stillness
I can hear you speak
You’re still an inspiration
Can it be (? )
That you are mine
Forever love
And you are watching over me from up above

Fly me up to where you are
Beyond the distant star
I wish upon tonight
To see you smile
If only for awhile to know you’re there
A breath away’s not far
To where you are

Are you gently sleeping
Here inside my dream
And isn’t faith believing
All power can’t be seen

As my heart holds you
Just one beat away
I cherish all you gave me everyday
’cause you are mine
Forever love
Watching me from up above

And I believe
That angels breathe
And that love will live on and never leave

Fly me up
To where you are
Beyond the distant star
I wish upon tonight
To see you smile
If only for awhile
To know you’re there
A breath away’s not far
To where you are

I know you’re there
A breath away’s not far
To where you are

Jim Reeves: Take my hand, precious lord.

When my way groweth drear
Precious Lord, linger near
When my light is almost gone
Hear my cry, hear my call
Hold my hand lest I fall
Take my hand, precious Lord
Lead me on.

Precious Lord, take my hand
Lead me on, let me stand
I am tired, I’m weak, I am worn
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand, precious Lord
Lead me home.

--- Instrumental ---

When my work is all done
And my race here is run
Let me see by the light
Thou hast shown
That fair city so bright
Where the lantern is the light
Take my hand, precious Lord
Lead me on.

Precious Lord, take my hand
Lead me on, let me stand
I am tired, I’m weak, I am worn
Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light
Take my hand, precious Lord
Lead me home.

As for me, if I died now, it might be "Fade to Black" by Metallica. Maybe "Suicide Note" (parts I and II) by Pantera. Not that I'm in any way suicidal.

I'd probably have a selection of songs played; among them, possibly "As We Speak" by Soilwork, "Live and Let Die" by McCartney (but probably the GnR cover of it), who knows what else...
I'm watching Jeopardy. The category is worst Madonna songs. "This one from 1987 is terrible".

Johnny Maestro and the Crests: Sixteen Candles
Elbert Harrison: Kansas City

As long as what ever is chosen is actually played, at my grandfathers a couple weeks ago they only played one of the right songs the other three that were in the program with the words weren't played, he pllayed some random one.

I like the song "Seasons of Love." Friends of our had it at their daughters funeral, really sad.

My funeral would have the following kinds of music:

--As I am a lifelong pianist, self-taught violinist, and acoustic folk guitarist, I would like all three instruments used at my funeral in some way.

--Organ music to accompany congregational singing

--My favourite old Christian hymns to be sung by congregation:
*Holy Holy Holy
*Be Thou My Vision (just as Irish as I am!)
*How Great Thou Art
*Other old hymns

--One of my older sisters, with her acoustic guitar, to sing "On Eagle's Wings" (a 1979 Catholic liturgical song)

--Another sister to sing, to piano accompaniment, "The Lord's Prayer"

--Violins/strings and piano playing Pachelbel's Canon in D or some other classical or sacred requiem

--Irish bagpipe music (to reflect my proud Irish heritage  Wink )

--How about some jazz--to jazz things up a bit? (I have always loved to play jazz, and it is my life's soundtrack practically!)

I'm sure my family will dig up any number of recordings I've made over the years as a musician, but here is some I'd like to have played/sung:

Hymns:
When in Our Music God is Glorified
"When in our music God is glorified, and adoration leaves no room for pride, it is as though the whole creation cried Alleluia!
How often, making music, we have found A new dimension in the world of sound, As worship moved us to a more profound Alleluia!"
—Fred Pratt Green

Amazing Grace
Holy, Holy, Holy
All Creatures of Our God and King

Contemporary:
"My Lips Will Praise You" - Twila Paris
"Hallelujahs" - Chris Rice (Listen here)
"Remember Me" - Mark Schultz
"Untitled Hynm (Come to Jesus)" - Chris Rice (Listen here)

Classical:
Hallelujah from Messiah by Georg Frederic Handel
Fantasy on the Dargason (4th Movement), Second Suite for Military Band by Gustav Holst
Up, up and away!

I had to pause and look at that one again! First instinct, I thought 1st movement, "March". I love Gustav Holst. But the 2nd Movement, "Song Without Words 'I Love my Love'" is absolutely my favorite. I used to play the solo on my trumpet, back in the days.
