Is The Weather Going Crazy..?

Sun Nov 26, 2006 2:21 am

It's an amazing 21 ° Celsius today in Nîmes- normally in November we have not more than 10-12 ° Celsius...
In Germany temperatures rose above 21 ° as well-what's going on?????
Is it really just -as some pretend- natural cyclic shifts in temperature or is the greenhouse-warming hitting us already heavily?

Well, in a word - YES!

Unseasonably COLD here in Alaska, all over the state. We're having temperatures today we normally expect in January and February. ANC has had -15F to -20F for several weeks. Up north it's worse, in the -30F to -40F range. And very little snow yet, so not much insulation on the ground.

My heating bill is up 60% over last year at this time.

We expect temps like this in Jan or Feb, certainly NOT October and November.

Here in Phoenix its a great 65F and the high today is 75. It'll float around 70 the rest of the weekend and next week.
No snow or ice here.  Wink

ANC,

I'm operating IAH-SEA-ANC this week. I'm from the coldest parts of Colorado and have been doing ANC runs for 3 years. It is that brutal?

Nice ride on a 738 . . . I have a friend that commutes to work from Round Rock on that flight once every two weeks. He'll be aboard your Wednesday flight this week IAH-ANC.

Strange weather in AK this year. No snow up north, but yards of the stuff in JNU, HNS and SGY . . . colder than cold everywhere. Thank goodness the BAFDT has auto-start and plugs in to a Battery Blanket, Coolant pump, engine oil heater and cab heater . . .

I have to leave for work Monday afternoon, but if you're in town before that, give a shout, Alaskan Amber is on me.  biggrin

The flight from SEA doesn't get in until 11:50PM. We'll have to raincheck that one.

But global warming really means global changes in weather patterns and you're in Alaska so you can't expect it to get that much warmer because of global warming and yadda yadda yadda....  Smile

The weather is officially wierd - it may be 21C in Nimes, but in Nice it's been cold and wet all week. Last week we had a huge thunderstorm with buckets of hail, I had hail like snowdrifts on my terrace. I blame the Freemasons !

The South West has had some very strange weather, it's already been down to -4 a few weeks ago, lower in some places, but this weekend it been up to 15 degrees, although we have had inches of rain, causing some pretty bad flooding. So, many of the flowers and trees think its spring, they react purely to temperature fluctuations and have no concept or basis on time for when they bud, meaning that many things in my garden are starting to grow again! This is bad though, because next week it will be getting colder again, so the tender buds will be killed and some damage done to the plants.

Next to the 727-200, my favorite plane (especially the CO version with the B/F seats).

Is it crazy?

Well, the weather has always known how to put on a good show, and global warming has little to do with it. As for Europe, there's a high pressure area somewhere above the Atlantic that's helping us to the warm weather by shovelling air from the Sahara up North. Obviously, it's pretty cold on the western side of that high pressure area - but no one cares because it's right in the Atlantic ocean.  Wink

I heard that on the radio, made sense to me.

Shit, it hit 65F in my backyard today, which is damn near unheard of here in Cleveland. I didn't mind all that much...

The 757 is my favorite along side the DC-9. The DC-9 was the first jet I ever piloted and got a rating for.

The Diesel 9 is a tank with wings (I mean the 10-30-50 series, not those foo foo 80 series), the 757 is a graceful bird of the air . . . . but nothing beats a 727-200 . . .  biggrin

I didnt know other places had such drastic temperature changes during the day. It took me a bit of getting used when i just came here to Mexico.

I had my four years in the right seat of the 727. The -200 was the best for obvious reasons.  Smile

One of my favorite A.net pics. A great plane in the city I lived in for over 30 years.
