Is There Something Magical About Cabernet?

Thu Nov 30, 2006 4:59 pm

I've been drinking a lot of Cabernet lately...tonight at a benefit dinner/get drunk fest/silent auction/etc. etc. I showed up at say...730pm and left at 1130pm and in the midst of being a social bee (and working on future hook ups, of course) I managed to polish off three bottles of Cabernet. I'm not even feeling the slightest bit intoxicated.

What gives.

I'm slightly disappointed.

3 bottles in 4 hours and you're still sober....

what size were the bottles?
did you drink them alone?
what's the % of alcohol?

I drank them by myself. My friend Nicole went through two bottles by herself and she is absolutely destroyed. It was an Uncle Bill's night....if you live in St. Louis...you know what I mean.

I have no idea on the rest...I'd say..standard bottles?! It was Peter Lehman Cabernet...which makes the premium selection in most average run of the mill restaurants at about $8 a glass.

Takes a lot of drinking to build up such tolerances.

This calls for a hearty salute.

Me, I just can't handle liquor that well, so I can't give an opinion. Maybe because you were fed and kept yourself active, drinking a bit at a time, the effects didn't quite get to you.

When are you leaving STL?

I dont know about anything magical as far as not getting hammered, but I do think that there is something magical in a good bottle..no GREAT bottle of 1999 Jordan Cab (2001 and 02 are also great)...

Red wine turns me into an emotional wreck, just as Irish whiskey turns me into a pugilist. Two bottles to myself and I'll have my arm slung around a stranger telling them how much they mean to me.

I've gotten away from the cabernets lately and have been sticking mostly to zinfandel and table wines.

I can highly recommend the Rancho Zabaco "Dancing Bull" - a great value at only $9-$10. A good table wine to try is Estancia, also a good value at just over $11.

Cheers.

Here I must agree with you - Rancho Zabaco Dancing Bull has great wines for the price - Often on sale in my local market for $6.99....
