Yet Another Football Scandal In Italy Brewing

Wed Dec 06, 2006 1:54 pm

Vincenzo Iaquinta and 20 other Italian football players are now under investigation for placing illegal bets on Serie A football games. The Prosecutor's office in Udine suspects that these players have placed bets through a middle man on 4 games for a total of €700,000 and that for these bets, four games were manipulated through the last 4 years.

The Financial Police says that Iaquinta has been found to have placed bets for €1000, while others have placed much higher bets, along with them Marco Ferrante from Pescara, who's bet was €170,000. The games under investigation for manipulation all ended in ties. Since Autumn of last year, a general ban on football players placing sports bets has been in place.

It seems like it's not over yet when it comes to scandals in the Serie A. First Juventus, which pretty much got away easy, and now those four players.
