Most Intellegent World Leader Currently

Sat Dec 09, 2006 7:04 pm

Who would be rated as the Wisest/Intelligent world leader presently.
Both on basis of Educational qualification & Leadership power.
Also where would the Indian PM Dr Manmohan Singh rank.

You should never use "intellegent" and "world leader" in the same line  Wink

Well it is hard to say Mel but considering your two points I think it would be Russias Putin. He is a very intelligent man with tremendous power. I´m not saying that I agree with his methods or actions because he is a killer and doesn´t even try to hide it. I don´t really want to rank the Indian prime minister since I know to little of him. Otherwise for my country Frau Merkel, well she is smart but no leadership power anymore.

Well, she is a Doctor of physics, therefore she has to be intelligent. About leadership power - there are factors which are probably more important than personality --> like the whole political environment. And the political environment isn't in favor for a strong leader in Germany.

Concerning Putin, I won't debate that he is a intelligent, although ruthless politician. But I'm not sure how much power he really has. I don't know enough about Russian politics, but I've read enough to be not sure anymore whether he is really as powerful as he appears to us in the West.

I didn't vote for at the last election, but I was pleasantly surprised by her after she won it. She is a physicist by profession and thus does not come from the usual ilk of politicians, who are former lawyers, sociologists and civil servants. I like her often straight forward common sense approach to politics, but I think she has, as a physicist, difficulties in "politicking" and backroom deals.

I agree about Putin. He definitely is intelligent, he knows what he wants, but has absolutely no scruples to use any means accessible to him to recreate a big Russian empire led by the leadershiip of the former Soviet intelligence services community.

Apparently George W Bush could read "The Hungry Hungry Catipiller" before it was ever published. I thought this was quite a clever trick

I agree on Merkel. Putin is smart, but sometimes you get the idea he may not understand exactly how the world works - many of his policies aren't in Russia's long-term interests. Examples are attempting to control the media and launching the war in Chechnya.

I can offer a few suggestions as to who it is not but that is the wrong way.

Does the question mean intelligent, learned, or effective as all will be different?

Putin and Merkel seem OK, Mariner will gag, but the NA PM Helen Clark is not dumb.

Were he still President, N Mandela would have to be tops in practical intelligence. I cannot think of any current runners up. In his day, Clinton would have made the finals too.
Edit: Sorry, I knew I would not get the spelling of Merkel correct first time.

Political leaders that survived for a long period have mainly one quality :Instinct for public manipulation....
Another good thing to have ,are thick secret service files about your opposition and peer-political "friends",to put pressur on them in due time.
From an intellectual point of view I think Putin,Chirac,Singh, José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero,Condoleeza Rice (without any judgment about their politics..) would to be considered as quite clever and intelligent.

I do not know how he will be judged by history; however, working for him, I can tell you that our PM, Manmohan Singh is the best thing that has ever happened to India. His intellectual poweress and ability to grasp the bigger picture is truly inspiring. Is he the best politician? Perhaps not. However, he definitely embodies the essense of the most intelligent world leader.

Outside India, I must say Lula (Brasil) and Frau Merkel (Germany) have a vision that many leaders lack.

I dont know if she counts as a World Leader, but Condoleezza Rice has an impressive educational background. Bachelors at age 19, Masters at 20, Ph.D at 26. Fluent in Russian German French and Spanish. Also an impressive career in Academics for Stanford and UC Berkley. She is up there

I'm honestly going to have to say Akmanejijadad, the Iranian guy. He got Iran wayyy up on the world stage last Summer with the whole Israel/Lebanon conflict.

And he's about to go head-to-head with the US/allies at the UN.

He's done alot in a short amount of time...

I dont know how intelligent Manmohan Singh is as i havent met him. But I do know that he is one of the most educated ones and has an absolutely brilliant CV, I'd say good enough to make the CEO of any Fortune 500 company.

And he is doing a pretty good job as the CEO of India Inc.

Cheers

I'm the most intelligent world leader! Don't you remember? The trick with the vote of confidence in 2005 was one of my masterpieces in terms of politics.

Many of you will be surprised to see me write this, but I think that Queen Elizabeth II probably is. She maneuvers herself like a political pro around issues that most politicians would avoid if they could. She's stayed in power for over 50 years, has never really stuck her foot in it, and has never betrayed her true personal motivations and political beliefs. It takes brains to do that.

That said, if you're looking for a classical 'genius' type intellect, look no further than Queen Margrethe of Denmark. The ladys accomplishments are extraordinary.

Schroeder is smart and street-wise like his new employer Putin, at the best. But not intelligent. A good salesman but a lousy whatever else. BTW Your're not the guy who is doing the Gerd Show, Elmar Brandt?

Ms Merkel is certainly high on the list but we all should know that people who are really intelligent rather stay out of politics. Or, they enter the ring after they have made it in real life.

Arnold Schwarzenegger for instance. He does not need the Governors pay check, he does not even need the party behind him. A true independent bringing new ways into politics. They way he has succeeded in California has class.

She certainly is a very experienced political professional having worked with ten prime ministers in the past fifty-four years, beginning with venerable Winston Churchill. Her manoeuvring may be helped by her not being permitted to make political statements in public.

I am having difficulty here defining world leader. Names that come to mind: George Bush, Tony Blair, Pope Benedict XVI, Jacques Chirac, Vladimir Putin ........ To my mind, the most intelligent current world leader is the one with probably the least influence: Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama.

Seriously though, while Dubya might not be the brightest out there, he actually appears a lot dumber than he actually is. Having said that, I'm sure he either failed speech 101, or used to skip class...

There hasn't been a smarter, classier lady in politics in a while. Too bad she says she isn't interested in the presidency.

Right now the smartest head of state has to be the new Mexican president, yes believe it. This guy is very well-schooled, a smart politician and totally fooled even the highest officials of his opposing party that wanted to make a scene in the inaugural ceremony by blocking his entrance.

Then cleverly sneaked through a back door while ppl still thought he was "on the way"  Smile
