Happy Hanukkah!

Fri Dec 15, 2006 3:31 pm

Ok, so I am about to go out on a mission through Ramadi, so I won't be here this evening when Hanukkah officially starts at sunset. Thus, I am a little early in wishing all of my Jewish brothers and sisters, a happy Hanukkah.

Hanukkah is also known as the Festival of Lights, and is a celebration of the victory of the Maccabees, and the rededication of the Jerusalem Temple. It also commemorates the miracle of the oil that burned for 8 days.

It will definitely be odd spending the holiday in Iraq, and since practically everyone here celebrates Christmas, I will have more than my fair share of xmas carols, xmas trees, decorations, gifts, santa hats, etc...

And not to mention my fair share of xmas cookies. Ohhhh what I wouldn't do for some good Raspberry Apple Sauce Latkes and spiced fritters with maple-vanilla syrup!!!

So Happy Hanukkah!

Happy Hanukkah to my friends on A.net who celebrate.

Also a special mention to my good friends Gill and Johnny (non-members who read often) you know who you are, have a great celebration and may you be showered with many gifts.

I wish a safe and joyful Hanukkah to my fellow Jews. My real Hanukkah gift will be in just under 2 weeks when I depart on a trip to the Holy Land (Yes, I will post a trip report when I return).

UH60 - you have my most sincere wishes that next Hanukkah, you will be out of harm's way, and with those you love and care about.

Hag shameach all,

Marc

Happy Hanukkah!!!!!!

Brings back great memories of spending time with my Father's parents (his side of the family is Jewish).

Thanks UH for your sacrifices. Stay safe and all the best.

I freaked out a few friends and family members this year. I sent out Hanakkuh cards instead of Christmas cards. I have a menorah. Tonight (December 15th) would be a good night to put it in my front window and light the shammosh and the first candle.
