Ok, so I am about to go out on a mission through Ramadi, so I won't be here this evening when Hanukkah officially starts at sunset. Thus, I am a little early in wishing all of my Jewish brothers and sisters, a happy Hanukkah.
Hanukkah is also known as the Festival of Lights, and is a celebration of the victory of the Maccabees, and the rededication of the Jerusalem Temple. It also commemorates the miracle of the oil that burned for 8 days.
It will definitely be odd spending the holiday in Iraq, and since practically everyone here celebrates Christmas, I will have more than my fair share of xmas carols, xmas trees, decorations, gifts, santa hats, etc...
And not to mention my fair share of xmas cookies. Ohhhh what I wouldn't do for some good Raspberry Apple Sauce Latkes and spiced fritters with maple-vanilla syrup!!!
So Happy Hanukkah!
Your men have to follow your orders. They don't have to go to your funeral.
