Computer Help - Java Won't Behave!

Mon Dec 18, 2006 7:17 am

I hate starting two threads within such a short timespan, but this is driving me MAD...

Absolutely no java-based chatrooms works on this computer- it keeps showing the message "Java Applet loading failed" on the bottom, and there's just a red DirectX "x" in the top left corner  confused

Chatrooms works on every other computer in the house.

Java and DirectX are up to date (I just downloaded the latest versions, just to make sure. There's no difference.)
I'm running Windows XP. Internet safety shouldn't be a problem as I've tested it even with minimum safety and minus firewall.

Remove and re-install...

Or perhaps a spirit is telling you to keep your ass out of the a.net chat room...

Haven't been in there in ages anyway. Was trying to get into an anime-themed-chat. Nice try  Wink

Have the same issue on my other machine, a bunch of stuff just simply refused to work, including the chat feature.

My solution:

Mozilla Firefox 2.0

Found that for the most part it works even better than IE 6.0/7.0

FireFox is my default browser- I tried with both IE AND that... I hate java (and apparently, it hates me right back)  irked

You need to locate all instances of Java and remove the directories manually.
http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/howto-21.html

Then visit www.sun.com/java to download.
