Ever Turn Down A Large Tip?

Tue Dec 19, 2006 3:31 am

Justr currious. Last week I was helping a passenger who was obviously a few French Fries short of a Happy Meal, ultimately we refused him transportation. In any event, I did spend about 90 minutes with him trying to help him and get him a self place to stay for the night.
When was all said and done he offered me a $200 tip, which I turned down. I felt that would be taking advantage of someone and in any event I was just doing my job, not gratuity neede.

I have turned down a tip....$2.

I turned 16 and started to work for a VW dealership which also rented out campers to Europeans. My job was to pick up tourists (mostly German) from the airport and bring them back to the dealership and show and tell them (in German) how the camper worked.

No big deal, it was my job. Them after my first "gig" the guy hands me a $2 bill. I was a little shocked, i've never been tipped. Do i accept?.. it was an odd feeling. I turned it down... politely.

After i spoke to my boss about the above, he proceeded to tell me to "take what i can get". So i did.  biggrin

I flew a party of "high rollers" home from Reno many years ago. They wanted to stay, the casino (which paid for the flight) wanted them gone. They offered the crew more and more money to leave them in town just one extra day. It finally got to $40 thousand, split five ways just to "break" the airplane on paper.

Problem is, for the modest sum of eight thousand dollars I was not willing to be fired. Looks like a big tip but alongside a decent & steady income it is not all that significant.
Happiness is not seeing another trite Ste. Maarten photo all week long.

I get tips all the time:

None of them are monetary . . .

Most involve my heritage or my intelligence . . .

I never get a chance to refuse them  cry

You got told to play a variation of the game "Hide and Seek", didn't you?
