Ode To The Polish Republic

Fri Dec 22, 2006 5:45 am

Well every country has their undesirable leaders. The Aussies have Howard, the Finns have a President that looks like Conan O'Brien, the French have a whiny blowhard in Chirac, the Brits have a poodle named Blair, and the US doesn't even need introduction with its management.

Now Poland too gets to enjoy bizarre and sheerly annoying government since Election '05 introduced the new management.

Even the Catholic Church is now offended by an attempt by the uber-conservative coalition in Parliament to make Jesus Christ King of Poland. That's right folks, the son of man would be crowned in Warsaw. Now, they base this on a declaration made three and a half centuries ago by King John Casimir that made the Virgin Mary honorary queen of Poland. Nothing wrong with that. Those were the times. Besides, the legal standing of a King from 350 years ago in the Republic today is grey.

But now, 46 deputy MPs want to proclaim Christ as the King of Poland. Granted, Poland is overwhelmingly Catholic, but let's thing about this...

Would Jesus accept such a title? Any idea how offensive this would be to non-Polish Catholics?

How about the issues raised by Polish Catholic Monsignor Tadeush Pieronek, rector at Krakow's Papal Academy of Theology as quoted by the BBC...

"Christ doesn't need a parliamentary resolution to be the king of our hearts," AFP news agency quoted him as saying.

"These lawmakers would do better to look after their constitutional prerogatives and let religious institutions and the Church do our work," he said.

The Polish government has other issues to worry about here. How about letting Priests handle the faith in the land since clearly politicians are the LAST place to look to for any moral compass...

See Andzrej Lepper...the retarded Pig Farmer...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6207638.stm

Yes, Mr. Morals is involved in a sex scandal. The Euro-skeptic pig farmer who was dismissed from his post as Minister of Agriculture for petty squabbles only to return to his post in a vein attempt to stave off early elections and save the coalition government can't keep his snake in his trousers. Type "Kretyn" in Google (the Polish word for idiot) and click "I'm feeling lucky!"...you'll be taken to Lepper's webpage. The lunatic is known for organizing farmer's protests and for launching scare campaigns to whip up support from rural Poland by using the EU as a scape-goat. He favors closer relations with Russia (yeah, good idea, dumbass, get close with the country most hostile to you), and is rabidly anti-globalization. The "Self-Defence Party"...lovely name for a fringe party.

Even better is the name of the ruling party..."Law and Justice"...the idea of any political party invoking law or justice is laughable. Especially with the recent corruption scandal...so much for ending corruption.

Of course, this country is responsible for Poland being the first country to be run by triplets...yes triplets.

After PM Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz resigned due to a rift (or was it patronage pressure), the President got his brother, the former Mayor of Warsaw appointed to the spot. And thus, Poland is now run by the threesome...

Lech Kaczynski - President of the Republic of Poland

Jaroslaw Kaczynski - Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland

Theodore "Ted" Kaczynski - Postmaster General of the Republic of Poland

I think it'll take some Poles with some American in them to fully get that one.

Let's not forget the Potato Row involving the German Press and the Weimar Triangle Summit...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/5154870.stm

But the president's behaviour has been criticised by eight of the foreign minister's predecessors. In an open letter they wrote that Mr Kaczynski's failure to give a credible reason for not taking part in the summit had shown contempt for Poland's partners.

Oh and the proposal to reintroduce the Death Penalty. Let's see, that didn't last long in a country that heavily respects the late Pope John Paul II who vehemently opposed the death penalty. Nice one Spud.

2010 can't come soon enough. Rant over.
