Friday's Stupid Thread: Heinz Or Hunt's?

Fri Dec 22, 2006 11:18 am

I always wanted to start one of these threads, but I live so far west that someone always beats me to it. Well, if it's not already Friday somewhere, it's about to be soon, so I think I'm on solid legal ground. (Sucks to go off-topic on the thread-starter!)

Anyway, just like the title says, do you prefer Hunt's ketchup or Heinz?

I like Heinz. I like their mustard, too.

And I like real mayonaise instead of Miracle Whip.

BTW for the native Spanish speakers, how do you say Miracle Whip in Spanish, is it "Chicote de Milagro"???

Personally, I'd choose Heinz Ketchup, although I'm not a big fan of Ketchup (unless I order a Pommes Rot-Weiß, which in small diners around German means well-seasoned Fries (not just with Salt, but seriously seasoned) with Ketchup and Mayo). I prefer Mayonaise over Ketchup.

I've always bought Heinz. Sometimes I go cheap and get the store brand.

I like my Pommes Fritz mit Sharfer Senf! Yup, you got it. You should see the expression on the faces when I order Pommes Fritz mit Senf . . . .of course, they know I'm a tourist, my German sucks - except for women, beer and food - so they always ask me two or three times.  laughing

I buy Catsup/Ketchup in whatever size I need, and disregard the rest. Mayo, is Hellmans/Bestfoods, depending on which coast I'm on. Miracle Whip is only allowed on Bologna and Cheese sandwiches.

Heinz.

Hunts is too runny. It reminds me of the scene of a bad car crash.

If it has to be Catsup/Ketchup or however they are spelling nowadays, I choose Heinz. My preference for fries, and the like, is usually Ranch Dressing.

Heinz ketchup and Best Foods mayonnaise (even though you didn't ask). I never did go for the ketchup of many colors, but that new bottle that sits in the fridge upside down is just ginchy.

Heinz, but only out of the McDonald's/Burger King (et al) single-serving ketchup packets. I rarely use ketchup/catsup otherwise.

I don't know why, it justs tastes different out of the packets.

Heinz here. However, since I turned 21 I've found that all kinds of ketchup, even in the most modest amounts give me horrible heartburn.  Sad

Heinz all the way. Hunts is too sweet. That's the same reason why I prefer Dominos/Pizza Hut over Papa Johns, because Papa Johns' tomato sauce is too sweet.

And Miracle Whip is nasty. Mayo should be Kraft or Hellman's (Hellman's preferred).

Never heard of Hunts, but Heinz is the best anyway. And I certainly wouldn't let my political wossnames get in the way of whether I ate some sauce or other! Thats just cutting off your nose to spite your face!! Big grin

Fish, chips, mushy peas, Heinz tomato sauce and lashings of vinegar - mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, yummy! Big grin

I eat whatever Ketchup is on sale  Wink I eat so little of it anyways, that it doesn't matter to me.

It was interesting seeing green and purple Heinz ketchup in Germany however.

I used to be like you younger guys, but time has taught me that you must value quality over all else. If it's worth eating ketchup, you might as well have the best you can get, even if it's only a few pennies more.

Stay away from the "imitation process cheese", too. That shit is like eating pure cooking oil and it doesn't melt, it "slufs".

The 5 for $1 macaroni will get you by, but you'll impress your friends (and the girls) more with your gourmet chef talents if you'll get the Kraft macaroni and cheese instead of the cheap, runny stuff. And if you really want to go all the way, get the Velveeta Shells and Cheese Dinner!

89 cents for a package of weenies will keep you alive (barely) but when I want a hot dog, by golly I'm going to enjoy it so it's only the $4.00 a package Ball Park all-beef franks for me!

If someone starts making a ketchup that is as good as Heinz, I will let politics help me decide on which one I buy. Even if it cost a little more and it tasted the same as Heinz, I'd buy it if I knew it would keep money away from THK. But since no one makes a comparable product, I'll stick with it for now. Hunt's is too sweet.

Back to the topic - I don't think Hunt's is sold in Germany. When I buy ketchup I go for Heinz, it tastes better than that of any other brand. Of course it's a little more expensive, so I don't use more than really necessary.

Tough choice for me.

Hunts is owned by ConAgra Foods which is a client of my company's but I like the taste of Heinz though it is owned by the crazy broad with her poodle.

All things considered I'll stay with Heinz despite the weirdness of the owners.

"Neither Mrs. Heinz Kerry nor Senator Kerry nor any of the Heinz trusts or endowments — either individually or collectively — holds a significant percentage of shares of the H.J. Heinz Company. In 1995 the Heinz Endowments and family trusts sold a large percentage of Heinz shares in a secondary share offering to diversify their holdings. As a result, their current holdings are under 4 percent.

There is no connection between any philanthropic programs of the H.J. Heinz Company and its Foundation and the Heinz family interests (including the Howard Heinz Endowment, the Vira Heinz Endowment, and the Heinz Family Philanthropies)."

Isn't that the tune from the Benny Hill show?

I am a Heinz man. With a my mom and dad being native Pittsburghers I never had a choice.

How about Brooks Ketchup?  stirthepot  They used to have a plant in Collinsville, Illinois and there still is the large Brooks ketchup bottle water tower, which is a local landmark. It was even featured in a True Value hardware commercial a few years ago. I believe Brooks is now made somewhere in Canada.
