Agro Janni Arrives SYD

Thu Dec 28, 2006 10:24 am

This morning I got to meet my first o'seas A.netter. Janni (aka JAP - or whatever these days )  Wink on QF02, LHR via BK arriving at 6.29am.

All was well to meet up with her at QF domestic terminal 3 for her connection to Canberra at 8.10am, until........... oops!  Wow! QF lost her bag in transit between International and Domestic T3 !

Major panic and lots of mobile phone calls between us, until QF rescheduled her on a later connecting flight - which wasn't so bad, as they "did" find the bag, and it gave us a little more time to "say hi" and chat for a while before she left on the rest of her journey.

Was fun meeting someone for the very first time, and they were cleaning their teeth!  Big grin - still after that time in transit mine would be a bit furry too  Smile. She will probably kill me for this haa haa.

I think she got her wish....... "Not another 734  boggled " - she discovered a Dash-8 instead  Smile which was her wish come true. Maybe made up for the baggage screw-up.

I think she got there - haven't heard yet. But with all the phone calls - her battery is probably in need of a recharge - lol

So Australians... how do your holidays work out? I mean if your Christmas and summer holidays are combined in Dec and Jan, how long are your holidays during your winter in the middle of the year?
Can you say 'Beer Can' without sounding like a Jamaican saying 'Bacon'?

Ummmmmmmm - for most of us there is no Winter holiday at all. Our "biggie" is during the height of summer - December thru to Early February.

Then again, if you are self employed -stuff that  Sad - there is no time for a bloody holiday. I'm here now coz it's one of 3 days off i've given myself (Whoopee - NOT  Sad )

school kids get 6 weeks at christmas starting approx 20th dec until appox 30th jan. They also get 2 weeks in april(easter) 2 weeks in july(our winter) and 2 more weeks in october.
As for the working population the average annual leave is 4 weeks a year.
Unless of course like KiwiTEAL said you have your own bisiness.
Otherwise it is first in best dressed when it comes to taking your leave from your employer.
Today I am at work and spent most of it here on a.net...

P.S. and CBR IS a hole.

LOL..must be true. When I came back from BLR in September, they didn't let me bring in a bottle of Milo...because it contained milk powder and the lady said something about mad cow disease and milk powder....wtf?

From another southern hemisphere country...
That is about the same length break over December as here but our schools closed around December 1st and go back around Jan 15th. They also get 2 weeks in April, 2 weeks in July and 2 weeks in October. Public schools have 4 terms and private schools 3, and the dates obviously vary.

Our average worker's annual leave is 4 weeks as well. Winter holiday isn't usually done unless you go to the northern hemisphere!
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

*shudders* it's $50 to the airport. Every time I head into the clubs in civic I end up not drinking (there always seems to be something on the next day) but the day I do end up taxiing is gonna hurt - I might have to make friends with someone from Gordon beforehand to share the taxi with  Smile. I'm just glad I own a car - working in civic and having flying lessons at the airport would probs be impossible otherwise.

Belconnen is actually a sattelite city, filled with numerous suburbs. However, Belconnen is also a suburb in its own right.

We also have a thorn in our side, it's a city (or town) which wants to be part of Canberra. Like the English did, we ship all our rejects there. We call this place Queanbeyan.

Listen to you guys diss Canberra! When we visited Australia last year, I loved it. But then, I am a small-city girl.  Smile

People kept asking us about our itinerary, and when we said Canberra, they generally looked amazed and said "but why are you going there?" Then, our flight from Sydney to Canberra was chock full of businessmen in suits. I think we were the only tourists.  Smile
But that was when I ruled the world

Just has a text from Janni............. seems everywhere she's gone its either poured with rain - or theres been hail and thunder storms (lol)

She wanted all the ACT A.netters to know that she's been based in Gordon! and actually had a fun New Years Eve celebration in Civic, seeing the weather held for a few hours!

Today she's arrived in Sydney (suddenly started raining again  Confused  Wow! ) so not sure what that means. Gotta admit that since Janni arrived, the NSW dams have increased their levels the best in two years! (Wonder if she's a rain Goddess ???)

she said to send her best to Ted........... being the first in to "have a go!"  Smile

Not sure when I'll hear from her next....... but thats the update.
