Arghh I Hate Weather Forecasts!

Sat Dec 30, 2006 7:15 pm

I checked the weather 2 days ago, and the 5 day forecast was showing weather warnings all the way through the weekend for the UK, (just checked again and the met office is still showing weather warnings throughout the country this weekend www.metoffice.gov.uk)

I was hoping to book an a/c out to go for a bit of a bimble around the South East, but didn't bother based on the forecast.

I have now been up for the last hour and a half and it is glorious sunshine outside with no wind and not a cloud in the sky !!!.

Now the TAF for EGSS (nearest TAF for the airfield I fly from) is showing that the weather is pretty much going to be ok for most of the day !!

LONDON/STANSTED EGSS 300909Z 301019 21015G25KT 9999 SCT015 TEMPO 1719 21020G35KT 3000 +RA BKN014 BKN018CB PROB30 TEMPO 1819 24030G52KT TSRA

Now if I had booked an a/c and travelled to the airfield, then I bet the weather would have been terrible !!.

I hate the weather sometimes !!.

Tell me about it! I vowed to do coursework all day as the weather was supposed to be crap!

I guess that was a mistake, I could be shooting!

Lee, there's always flight sim.  rotfl

The forecast at the moment is totally out. It's forecast here as heavy rain and cloudy. However, for the first time in two weeks we have blue skies and its quite pleasant!

Is flying with winds gusting at 25kts the rule in the UK? I would stay home with such a wind anyway...

But yes, I have the same problem with weather forecasts here lately  Smile

Not for me it's not  Smile Like Leezyjet, I wanted to get a few hours in today too but with the TAFs for my local airfield as

BIGGIN HILL EGKB 301205Z 301320 21015G25KT 9999 SCT015 TEMPO 1619 21020G35KT 3000 +RA BKN012 BKN020CB PROB30 TEMPO 1719 24025G50KT TSRA

then I too will stay at home today  Smile

Well, I guess I was lucky 2 days ago, then ... unlimited visibility, no winds: perfect conditions for a flight over the Swiss Alps! Big grin

25kts gusts isn't that bad. I flew in 20G27kts the day before my first solo. I was actually going to go solo even with the winds but my landings were far from perfect so it was decided to delay it until the next day. Last month I also flew in 20G32kts in a C152. Makes it much more fun and keeps your skills sharp especially with the x-wind landings !!.

What I hate is when they don't forcast a problem and then in a blink of an eye you get:

CLE METAR 302151Z 06003KT 1/4SM FG OVC001 02/01 A3046 RMK AO2 TWR VIS 1 SLP322 T00220011

Fortunately a pilot had reported the fog bank building over Lake Erie so I didn't get caught short with no alternates listed.
Warm winds blowing, heating blue skies, and a road that goes forever. I'm going to Texas!

I don't listen to forecasts anymore. I just proceed with what I planned to do regardless of the weather. If it doesn't work out, then it doesn't work out. Minnesota has such spastic weather though, that you can't possibly predict even with radar and all that jazz.

They sure are! The forecast certainly was right for the South West of the UK Leezyjet; we've had rain, wind and grey sky's all day today, gusts reaching Force 8/9. Sadly the storms at sea washed 4 men from an American submarine as it left Plymouth drowning two of them, very sad so RIP to them.
