The Hogfather On Sky

Sun Dec 31, 2006 2:32 am

I've only just watched the first half on Sky two this afternoon. Now I want to catch the last part but I can't find it in the listings. Don't suppose anyone knows when it's on?

Does this have anything to do with Hogmanny?

No, its a story based at christmas, and the hogfather is their version of santa, who arrives every hogswatch. So it has nothing to do with Scotland

Animated or actors? I've always thought Pratchett's work would make a good movie.

Some really fine actors in it including David Jason.

Really? I've always thought it would struggle to translate. I watched Hogfather and thought it was, well...weird. The humour seemed to disappear.

It's based on a book by Terry Pratchett, one of the most brilliant comic satirists I've ever read. You pick it up thinking you've picked up something from the fantasy genre, perhaps even a children's book, then realize you're reading some incredibly sharp social commentary, and having an incredibly good time doing it!

Interesting, I'll have to check it out. First thing that came to mind based upon the pictures posted above was Ghormengast.

I would say that the best way to think of Pratchett is a modern day Jonathan Swift. It's the same vicious satire disguised as fantasy.
