Guilty Pleasures

Mon Jan 01, 2007 1:09 am

Let's air out our musical dirty laundry. Post three songs that are guilty pleasures for you.

Me:
1. 'Rock Me Amadeus' by Falco

2. 'Knowing Me, Knowing You' by Abba

3. 'Scenes from an Italian Restaurant' by Billy Joel

1. Tiny Dancer Elton John
2. The Girl From Ipanema Stan Getz & Astrud Gilberto
3. Sister Christian Night Ranger

While The Girl Ipanema is a classic bossa nova song, it has a certain kitsch value because of the various covers of it over the years.

Quoting LHMARK (Thread starter):
1. 'Rock Me Amadeus' by Falco

2. 'Knowing Me, Knowing You' by Abba

Nothing wrong with Falco. I've got that song and "Der Kommisar" on my computer (I need to track down "Vienna Calling")

As for ABBA, they're a guilty pleasure group for me.

In no particular order:

1. What a Feeling - Irene Cara
2. Mandy - Barry Manilow
3. Last Christmas - Wham
4. She's Like the Wind - Patrick Swayze
5. Eternal Flame - The Bangles

I only like most of these songs because I'm a fan of the 80's and because they're part of my childhood memory.

Dancing Queen by Abba

Memories of high school ...

Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant
I worked at an ambulance factory in St. Paul in the early 1980's. Everyone on the assembly line would break into song and dance whenever this came on the radio ...

Funkytown by Lipps, Inc.
A one hit wonder by a Twin Cities group whose lead singer worked for the Minneapolis Police Dept.

Ahh Dancing Queen...

I am only 19 and listening to the song takes me back...ok 2 years to HS  Silly

But Mom played this song quite a bit and it got into my head and I had actually forgotten about it until it was mentioned here. This song really is a good song, and it does take you back to High School days im sure.

Another reason I like the song is cause it makes my mom happy to hear it and relieve her own high school days and of course I like seeing my mom happy and this song really is good at that.

Thanks for the video and I got the song now to listen to it, excellent choices folks!

Again, why is that guilty? Queen were high rollers of entertainment. In many respects, they defined rock and roll for a generation. In fact, if aliens landed and asked "What is rock and roll?", Queen's Greatest Hits would be among the CDs I give to him...her...it.

Quoting Fruitbat (Reply 15):
4. Groove Is In The Heart (DeeLite)

This one possibly is guilty, but it's also worth noting that this tune ushered in a new type of Europop, at least in the British market. It was pretty ground breaking at the time. Terrible, but ground breaking.

As for me...

2. "Funky Cold Medina" by Tone Loc
3. "Back for Good" by Take That

While The Girl Ipanema is a classic bossa nova song, it has a certain kitsch value because of the various covers of it over the years.

Also the fact that the "elevator music" version of the song has been used as a cliché and for humorous reasons in movies (Like in The Blues Brothers).

I have the Best of Astrud Gilberto (20th Century Masters-The Millennium Collection) on CD out in the car and on my computer.
