Help! Need Opinions On Some Office Chairs...

Mon Jan 01, 2007 8:24 am

Well, I have a bad back/neck (my neck cracks/snaps randomly) and am in dire need of a new desk chair. Can anyone recommend a chair? I'm not looking for a good looking chair, just a chair that's good for my back/neck (and is reasonably priced). The chair's I can think of are:

The Freedom chair by Humanscale:

The Liberty chair by Humanscale:

The Aeron by Herman Miller:

The Leap chair by Steelcase:

Anyone have an opinion on these chairs? Which one is better than the other, etc?
Thanks, oohhh and a Happy New Year!

Anybody? Anyone? No? There must be someone who has used these chairs before...

I've only had butt time in the Aeron... and I loved it. So much that I wanted to buy one, until I saw the pricetag, generally starting north of 800 bucks. There is just something about the Aeron, it fits right, supports your body right, and puts you in a good posture to work.

Some of those chairs look like they are capable of picking up FM.

We have a type that is similar to the Aeron at work... They're extremely comfortable and are designed to be sat in for long periods of time.

They're not cheap (costing over $2000 per chair). Kept mostly for the managers and Operations staff, they really are the mutts nuts if you ask me!

I've done time in the Freedom and Aeron. Loved the Aeron - can't go wrong at all there. Right now I've got a Mirra chair by Herman Miller in my office, and again, its fantastic! No complaints at all - could easily sit in the thing for hours upon hours. These things tend to get a bit expensive, but its a worthwhile investment if you're neck/back is hurting. Even if one is in perfect shape and injury free, if you're going to be sitting in this thing a lot, it's worth it to drop some coin. (You'll eventually forget the money, but a bad back tends to linger)

Good luck!

It seems the majority like the Aeron. However, it has been out for quite some years now and I guess there have to be better seats out there which provide better support/comfort. No? As a result I'm leaning towards the Freedom.

From the sound of it you didn't like the Freedom?
