Fun With Criminals In Dallas

Fri Jan 05, 2007 10:10 pm

Every time I start thinking how much Dallas sucks, something fun like this happens and makes me crack a cynical grin.

A Red Bird-area homeowner turned the tables on a gun-toting burglar Wednesday night, taking the weapon away from him and beating him up with it.

[responsible police officer comment]You really shouldn't go into your home if you suspect that a burglary is in progress. Please call the police and wait for them to arrive. You could be seriously injured or killed if you confront the burglar.[/responsible police officer comment]

I was watching Court TV last night and came across "World's Scariest Somethingorother" and saw the same thing. Guy walks into a mom and pop convenience store somewhere in the UK and holds up the daughter with a shotgun wrapped in newspaper. The father came from the back room and beat the shit out of him. After he was down, the robber was getting kicked, just like in the movies. His mugshot looks like he went for a few rounds in a heavyweight boxing match.

Nice to see the tables turned. Gun was probably stolen.

From the article....

""He can't remember how he got the gun from him. He said he just had so much adrenaline pumping, he just kind of lost it.""

That is not unusual in a case like this. The "fight or flight" impulse is there for a reason and it likely saved his life, at that instant he became a preprogrammed machine that would not allow itself to be destroyed. Good for him and good for the home intruder as well.

Now the homeowner will likely have to deal with some side effects from the experience for a couple of weeks such as sleep disturances, loss of appetite, and sexual problems. Adrenaline dumps do strange things to the body and they take a while to wear off. Best of luck to him, and hopefully someone close to him will have been trained on this kind of thing and will be able to help him deal with it.
